Just import all your MP3's to Sonicstage then batch-convert all of them to ATRAC3plus before sending them over. The ATRAC codec is a great one. Allowing high sound quality at low bitrates, and is much less power demanding on batteries (part of the reason why sony has such great battery life). The HD1 is a work of art and really a great DAP. Mp3 support is really useless, just batch convert it all to ATRAC3plus, then transfer them over to the HD1, easy as silk.

Sony won't ditch ATRAC, ATRAC for Life!

It was on Woot.com, one day, one deal.

The A3000, in my opinion, just isn't that good of a player compared to the HD5. So really got it right with the HD5, easily the best HDD DAP ever made. The battery life is longer than the A3000, the HD5 is much smaller, and is all-metal so it won't scratch like the A3000, which scratches very easily. The A3000's screen also cannot be seen well at all in daylight, the entire A series leaves much to be desired.

Choices are: 1. NW-HD1 2. NW-HD3 3. NW-HD5 4. NW-A3000/1200/1000 (included in one as they are basically the same players w/ different capacities) My vote goes to the HD5 for the stellar battery life, size, interface, sound quality, removable battery, build quality, etc, etc. The HD1 and HD3 also look great, but without a removable battery and 10 hrs less battery life, it does leave a little to be desired. And I'm completely turned off by the NW-A series, being much bigger, shorter battery life, and easily scratchable. Sony made a mistake going away from the small, all-metal units.

RED NW-HD5 & WALKMAN PHONE PICTORIALS (ASIA)
RobA replied to STAN☆STAN's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Nice pics, HD5 is a great unit. -
Well not completely new, it's a refurb, but so was my last one. I have no problems with refurbs, they are pretty much as close to new as it can get, much closer than "like new" used players off ebay. I was actually considering bidding on this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Network-Walkman-N...1QQcmdZViewItem a brand new HD1. But even for $125 (thats assuming it stays at that price), I really didn't want to wait 6 days for an auction to end that I might not even win. If I could've found a new or refurb HD1 that was cheaper than what I paid for my HD5, I probably would've bought one.

Well after finding out that my player was indeed stolen and is now long gone, I bit the bullet today and spent $190 for a new one.
-
My beloved NW-HD5 has gone missing. I believe it was stolen from me, as I cannot find it anywhere and I always put it in the same place. And I don't have $200 for a new one right now. If anyone is willing to part with a good condition HD5 (or HD3/HD1 if I must settle for one) for like $70 or less, please reply, I'm very upset and frustrated right now...
-
For a used HD5H, I'd say $150 USD would be reasonable.
-
Personally, I am completely in love with my NW-HD5 and would hate to see sony give up on HD Walkman. They need to release a new player.
-
The NH1 is a bad comparison, as the NH1 is pretty much the RH1's older brother. Compare it to say, the RH10 and you will see what it lacks as a player.
-
I'm hoping for some new models. I'm not a fan of the rh1 at all. Hoping that the 4th gen is better, if there is a 4th gen.

I don't record, I use MD as a player/walkman. It lacks way too much as a player.
-
No it lacks way too much for me to even consider it, especially for the price.
-
If they were to make a Blue-ray MD, that would probably be enough for me to go back to MD after my HD5 eventually dies out in a few years.
-
One more question. If I was to install the AP version of SS4.2 on another computer, would I be able to download/upload songs to the HD5 from that computer as well since it's the AP version?
-
Just downloaded the Asia-pacific version on SS4.2, upgrade went smoothly, thanks.
-
Just buy one online, doesn't matter what country it was released in, you can still get it.
-
I'm still using SS3.1 and want to upgrade to 4.2, but I was reading through the forum to see that some HD5 users are greeted with a message to delete all their songs after upgrading. Does this problem still exist? Is it safe to upgrade?
-
Games? Meh, who cares, DAPs are made to play MUSIC! Why didn't you get an HD5 or something?
-
Is sony really making a video walkman? I don't see why. I mean, isn't that what the psp is for? Who would want to watch videos on a small screen on an mp3 player anyway? Stick with music sony, your doing great.
-
I find the MZ-NE410 to be very reliable. Probably because it is so basic.

No ipod will ever be better than an ATRAC Walkman from Sony, period. Apple can do whatever it wants, but the fact is, the sound quality, build quality, and battery life from sony is unbeatable. I can't tell you how many arguments I get with other people. I hate when people say "Why didn't you just get an ipod?" when they see my HD5. Apple won in marketing and advertising, but that's it.
