  1. I don't know what gazza is talking about...I thought directiries and folders were the same thing, and I don't really see how any of that affects this discussion. Maybe I'm missing something...anyway, 1: Importing is not real time for me. I imported 1200 tracks of various length of WMA and MP3 files in approx 2-3 minutes. SS is not creating any new files and treats the files you imported as the library file. It does, however, create a new file when you convert to ATRAC for transfer. This location can be defined in the options. 2: There's not a good way to do this. The best thing I can think of is to open the files in a wav editor and take care of it in there.
  2. richyu: Thanks. I agree, I really really like the design. pata2001: I thought the three line support was better on first generation units but I wasn't sure. MattJ: In a very unscientific test (holding them one in each hand) the 40ELK feels like it has a little more weight to it, but the difference is negligible.
  3. I think in the world of MD, remotes have become a mini obsession for me. The newer, the sexier, the better. When I bought my MZ-RH10 I bought an RM-MC40ELK to go with it, because hell, last time I was up-and-up on MD, a three-line backlit remote was unheard of. After I bought the 40ELK, I noticed the 55ELK. It's not really an MD remote, because it is only distributed with some newer Sony MP3/ATRAC3 CD players (specifically D-NE920, D-NE20). You can also buy it from some parts distributors, but at a price so high it makes it worth buying the nice CD player. I was fool-hearty (and in lust!) and paid 85 bucks for one by itself. One more thing before I begin the pictures. I'm sorry the pictures suck. I don't understand why they turned out so grainy. Next time I'll borrow my bro's Canon 20D and take some nice D-SLR photos. This is a composite, made in Photoshop, as I don't own 2 MD units First thing you notice, of course, is that the 55ELK is a return to stick-land. Right off this seems like a big difference. The 3-line remote seems like a huge advantage, but in playback its really not. All I ever get on the first line is the group number. What do I need group number for? Then on the second line is the track number and clock. Those are useful. And the third line is the title display. Pressing the "display" button on the 40ELK shuffles this through track, artist and album titles. Doesn't change the other two (useless) lines. So when you compare this to the one line display on the 55ELK its almost just as good. Clicking the "display" button does the same thing. The only difference is the clock is displayed by itself as an option you click through. Playback display is a draw. Recording, however, is a very different story. As you can see, and as anyone who has done any recording with an 40ELK is that you get the level display. This is invaluable for stealth recording. Keeping the MD unit in your pocket and still being able to see (and adjust) the recording level with the remote is freaking awesome. Unfortunately, you don't get that with the 55ELK. All you get is a time display. However, if you are monitoring the recording with headphones, you can still adjust the level if it is too high. Simply turn the track skip knob on the end (when rec level is set to manual). You get the following: Some other things worth noting about the 55ELK: -- The sound button, when held down allows you to select from the 4 presets and adjust the 2 custom EQs (only if custom sound is already on, if off, it does nothing). This is pretty much the same as the 40ELK, just with less fancy graphics. -- The menu operations available are identical to the 40ELK: Edit, MainPlayMode, and Option. -- Something peculiar: wasted space (highlighted in red) in dot-matrix area of the remote...maybe it gets used by the CD Players it was designed for. Conclusions: If you have a 40ELK, you don't need a 55ELK. The 40ELK meets and surpasses everything the 55ELK can do. This isn't surpising, since the 55ELK wasn't made for MD. I'm a little surprised can do all it does. I definately feel like I wasted money. I'm tempted to turn around and sell it, but I'm a sucker for the stick design and the "latest".
  4. "Tracks in the compilation albums" Engrish, I'm sure...lol Thanks for pointing all this out.
  5. I made just one recording with it and I can already see its short comings. It is definately tinny. I'm going to have to make some binurals soon.
  6. I never looked at it in the marketing way you just explained. The only reason I use the templates and the sticker sheets is that I can't find the neato labels readily available. Any suggestions on locating some?
  7. I found the following link using google. It has PNG and Photoshop templates to use with avery (or any other brand) sticker sheets, along with a short tutorial to take you through the process: http://scottishot.rkone.org/minidisclabels.php BTW, Raja: Grey Cartridges? I think you may be thinking of something else...I was talking about the first round of Hi-MD discs. You know, the navy with red border?

  9. I think its a shame sony traded the nice look of the first Hi-MDs for the cheap-looking translucent design.
  10. I just want to say happy new year to everyone, and think of me when you're somewhere warm. I'm going to be in line @ Wal-Mart for an xbox 360 I've already sold for profit. They should be on sale in approx. 12 hours now. Later all.
  11. This Item is now sold, thank you!
  12. I bought three minidisc items from wicked735i (seen in the thread here) Quick Delivery, Items as advertised, good seller
  13. According to Engadget Microsoft will offer "coupons" (ie cash incentives) to Original Equipment Manufacturers who put HD-DVD drives in their machines. They also said that HD-DVD support in Vista will be free as opposed to a 30 dollar licensing fee for blu-ray. Since these hurdles are being added to Blu-Ray in the PC world, can sony keep the format alive long? Seems about all Blu-Ray has going for it right now is that it'll be the media format for the soon-to-be best selling video game platform.
  14. I Like the following thread: Best Headphones Under $100 If all you've been using with you RH10 are the crap earbuds then you are going to love your minidisc recorder so much more.
  15. Eh, I'd love to, but I have no experience installing car stereos and I don't know if I need a special plug to connect it, and yadda yadda yadda
  16. I do ad-sense myself. So knowing just what every click means, I know clicking on ads for causes I like can be a good means of contribution.
  17. So the ad-revenue is enough to furnish a trip to CES...nice. I'll remember to click more often.
  18. Its not just your easy amusement. That is excellent service and turnaround.
  19. That was my logic as well, however, I ran across this on the Minidisc Switzerland "Known Problems" page for the MDX-C7900
  20. If I make SP discs via SS 3.3 and an MZ-N707, will they play on the Non-MDLP MDX-C7900 minidisc car stereo?
  21. I will now attempt to read the minds of Sony's Minidisc people.... .... .... .... nothing there. All kidding aside, what are you expecting to get with firmware upgrades? WMA support? How about some more stable mp3 support? Only Sony really knows why they don't update their MD devices with more features, but one guess would be the cost of developing newer firmware is not balanced by the profit of selling MD devices.
  22. phew...I thought I upset you. 16 GB memory player would be so awesome.
