  1. I appreciate your help and patience. I deleted the prescribed files, deleted the registry entries (OpenMP was not in HKEY_CURRENT... but was only in HKEY_Local), turned off virus protection, and used the downloaded 4.0 installer. Now, I get an MD Burner window that opens saying "a fatal error has occurred. If rebooting does not solve this problem then re-install the software." Rebooting does not solve the problem. Does that mean I should remove everything and reinstall again? hmmm, let me see: (Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.) thanks for any advice..... (I'm using an XP machine (SP2), with more than the minimum requirements stated by Sony)
  2. Thanks for the suggestion on the minidisc formatting, but at this point, I can't even get Sonicstage to run at all, because the installer deletes the older 3.x version (even if I reinstall it) without replacing it. I hear you on cleaning the registry, but really now, I install dozens of updates with other software that are written cleanly enough to avoid this kind of under-the-hood tweaking. Does Sony only check their software on one computer configuration? I don't like messing with the registry, but I guess that is my only choice.
  3. I waited a few months to install 4.0 because I've had repeated problems with previous upgrades of Sony products. I hoped that any problems would be resolved by now. My first install/upgrade from 3.x seemed to go through the full process, but after installation there were a number of problems (not recognizing blank disks, for instance). So, I tried: 1. Reinstalling 4.0 2. Uninstalling 4.0 and reinstalling 3. Uninstalling 4.0, deleting Sonicstage files in both program folder and deleting Temp files. It kept asking for a file on Disk 1 (which appears to be a bad code because the file it asks for is a folder name, not a file name). 4. Uninstalling and reinstalling 3.0. Then, running the 4.0 upgrade. When I do this, it deletes 3.0 but replaces it with nothing. Does anyone have any other ideas because I am now just doing the same thing over and over? I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person with such upgrade problems.... t
