Laraine, I have also noticed poor battery life on record with a new Nimh battery but I blame the battery compartment design. There's a bad connection via the end contact, which relies on a hinge for continuity. You could verify this by connecting the battery directly to the DC input socket. The MZR55 draws more current in record so the battery sensor reacts to the lower voltage, etc.
