Thanks Ishiyoshi. I'll try option 1. I've never had a professional repair done satisfactorily by Sony before so I'll avoid that. Alternatively can buy a new HD1 for GBP99.99 if needed.

The internal screen on my much loved HD-1 is broken. Are there any fixes known??
