Thanks, Stuge, and a welcome back to you! Looks like you had a beautiful vacation.

flipstah: You should contact "docfin," an on-and-off member of this forum, at docfinATgmailDOTcom. He has many service manuals and although he doesn't have the service manual for your MT880 model specifically, he does have the one for the Sharp MT899, the European version of your MD recorder. Be sure to mention that you are a registered member of MDCF. Good luck!

Oh! I just might have to get this one.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Richy, Ishi, Daniel, and Bob! Had a blast.

Here are 2 (not necessarily cheaper) alternatives: If you can find these, there is the Panasonic RP-BP3L, but retail prices them around the same as Sony's LIP4WM. And, there is also the "ghetto rig," which uses the modified AA attachment of the N10 that is held onto the NH1 with a rubber band or similar.

For long portable-headphone cords, try a Sumajin Smartwrap (or a simple twisty-tie). Works pretty well.

My Japanese NH1, EH1, and NH3D all have the battery in your top pic and came with hard plastic carry cases. Part numbers are the same as yours (the "11"). I don't think or know if this makes a big difference, but mine say "DEA" and not "DHA." There's a 3rd LIP4WM that I've seen and it only says "Li-ion" in the center with no logo or anything. It was bought from an eBay seller in China and I don't think it's been verified yet if it's fake or not because no one's seen it come stock with any Hi-MD unit. The users say that it works just like the other 2 though.

The cable connection type for the Passport is USB A to Mini B. Go for it. I have a hard drive that I bought a while ago to put in an enclosure. lol I'm sure mine will be chunky, too!

Greg, you're on a never-ending spending spree! Sleek camera. For Greg and Daniel. These are pics of my 80GB, but the 120GB is the same size and shape except that the rubber siding and bottom is black, not blue. The Passport is working great for me, so great that I got the 120GB, which came with a black, sturdy carry case. The 80GB (a few years ago) was $99 and came in a box with no carry case; 120GB is (currently) $149 and comes in a gHey blister pack. Your turn. Let's see some pics of that U2.

Airport Security X Rays... What's going to happen?

Try reading this: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=2463 Good luck and have a safe trip. -
I don't have any experience with them, but I've read that the newer SparkPlug (white) sounds better than the older Plug (purple, blue). Although it's thought that this is due to the SparkPlug having a different kind of tip foam, allowing for a better fit.

So, basically, no - lol. I was just wondering because you said that the N10 had one ("One of my favorite MD units of all time --the tiny N10 Net MD unit -- had one even back then"), but I don't remember any mention of HD digital amp when that unit is discussed. Considering the MDCF Equipment Browser has been found to have some mistakes, I just wanted to make sure. I recently gave a DH10P as a gift. As for the build, it is very sturdy and feels more like aluminum and not the plastic, thin feeling of magnesium. My Hi-MD units don't have scroll wheels so I found it hard to navigate the DH10P, but only because I wasn't used to it. The tiny center play button is a little tricky though and (for me) harder to manipulate than the NH3D's, which is on the side; again, maybe because I'm unfamiliar with that placement. Actually, it has a similar layout to the NH3D (play/pause/FF/FR on the same button) that I do like for playback - my finger doesn't have to move around as much. Pretty unique that it loads MDs from its bottom instead of the top or side.
-
My Japanese NH1 and NH3D also came without a 1GB MD. But, they did come with the extra USB short-cord. I guess it's somewhat of a trade-off. Does the Japanese RH1 also come with a long and short USB cord like the Japanese NH1/3D (or even the DH10P)?
-
Did you get a Japanese RH1? I recently read someone's post stating that Japanese units (like their silver RH1) don't come with a Hi-MD blank.
-
I was wrong. Ishiyoshi IS the MDCF Icon Factory. You've been getting a lot of down time recently, eh?
-
The N10 has the HD digital amp?
-
I'm partial to the Bit Clubs myself. I would download the other MD designs, but there's so many of the TDK BC that I have yet to use even 1/4 of them.
-
isulong: That price is too high. Even Japan Direct's price is lower (and JD is considered overpriced). If you're set on getting the NH1, I'd first try eBay and then Japan Direct or similar. On eBay, a new NH1 can be found for just over US$300. With $499.99, you can buy 2 brand new MD units. With a little more forum reading, you'll find that there are quite a few recorders from which to choose and a list of places other than Amazon that sell them. Good luck!
-
The Hi-MD players (EH930, EH50, EH70) have the HD digital amp. Even some of the MDLP, non-Hi-MD players (E630, E720 and E730) have it, as does the NH3D.
-
Finally. The end of stock buds for me.
-
Wow. MDCF should update their equipment browser and ask people who actually have the unit to submit pictures instead of going off of Sony's prototypes (?). lol I'd hate to think a newbie is misled on several unit descriptions because of a link I gave to an incorrect or outdated MDCF equipment browser. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH600D.html (It shows a blue and silver NH600 without remote plugs.)
-
D'oh. Scratch that. I meant the NH600 (no D) has no remote port.
-
Uhh, no kidding. My point was that even though 3.4 is just fine for the purpose of minidisc usage, perhaps it is better to go ahead and get 4.0 instead of 3.4 due to the content in that linked thread.
-
Just wondering. When deciding between 4.0 and 3.4 for minidisc, would this be of any concern? http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16158
