Thank you for your advice, but let me clarify some things... #1 - they arent both installed on one machine... what i was trying to say is that i tried to install both versions 4.0 and 3.4......not simultaneously and after installing them both..(removed 3.4 tried 4.3 wouldnt install then tried 4.0) both 4.0 and 3.4 (both standalone w/ no sony connect integrated) gave me the same error about not being able to find files related to the windows media format... i installed 3.4 first a while ago tried to open it and it gave me the error about it cannot find files relating to windows media format... i uninstalled it..tried to install sonicstage 4.3 (with sony's connect music store) or the internet version of the software, i tried using the default installation path and a couple of others i created but still the same error about cannot find installation path.. im thinking its a problem with this pc's OS...im am running xp with all the latest upgrades and sp's...i am going to try to install 2000 and see if i get the same installation path problem..because i think i have encountered the same thing while trying to install another program..( i think, but im not sure) after the unsuccessfull installation of 4.3 i downloaded the standalone version of 4.0 from the archives here .. i think the 38mb one... and it installed...but gave me the same error as 3.4 standalone about not being able to find the files being related to windows media format which i guess is some type of wma codec for integrating wma files onto the md... when i first installed 3.4 i thought it could b a problem with something lacking in windows media player itself but after upgrading to windows media player 10 i still got the same error so i ruled that out... what im guessing is that mabye the program installed but is missing that wma codec... i am still going to try to rule more causes to this problem out...because when i installed sonicstage(the original 2.3 that came with my mz-nhf800 and the 4.3 version with connect from sony's website) on my other desktop and laptop it went thru with no problems.. so i am seriously guessing its a problem with this operating system on this pc itself.. i would have tried to install 2.3 on this desktop i am currently using now, but i lost the cd... so i am going to keep messing with this and try to figure out the cause for this error...in the meantime i guess i am just stucc with having to line in my md player and record everything with soundforge or total recorder and do it the manual old school way (which hopefully i dont)... but i am going to try to figure this problem out because although it is a royal pain in the a** it seems like a minor problem that probably requires a minor fix... what im guessing is that with the 3.4 and 4.0 standalone the installation completed... but was missing a codec or a dll or something... but i am going to keep trying to figure out the possible causes for this problem and if i find out ill post it... thanks again for your help.. it is appreciated... --Freshley
