I was just wondering, how is MD doing in Japan and other parts of the world where it was more successful? Has the whole world gone MP3? I know that MD is pretty much all but gone here in the US.

Ok, Thanks for the advice guys.

After converting my SP files in MarC's HiMD renderer to MP3s, I noticed that the track numbers are clearly labeled on the MP3s. Oddly, iTunes does not recognize the track numbers. Is that normal or did I forget to check something somewhere? I've been manually typing in all the track numbers for iTunes; is there a work around for that?

Oh cool! I was just experimenting and found that I could create a new folder with the correct album name, drag the file over into it, then put it in SS and voila fixed folder name! Which is of course what you just told me to do! Thanks to both of you for the help.

Hi, I've been using SS 4.2 transferring my old SP MD collection to my XP computer via an RH1. Some of my unlabeled tracks seem to get mistitled by SS, so I will manually go in and relabel them with the correct information. After retitling, the track info reads correctly in SS, but when I go to the actual folder where the files exist, the files are still mislabeled. Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing to refresh all the title info or is this some kind of SS bug?

For some reason I thought a recording from an analog source in SP could be transfered unfettered via the optical output from one MD recorder to another. Thanks for the tip, next time I'm going to try recording in PCM on the RH1.

I tried a few things to experiment with the problem. As far as I can remember, both recordings were done on the same machine (MDS-302) in SP mode. Playing back on the MDS 302 or any other non HiMD machine I had access to seemed to be no problem, it was just the RH1 that had trouble. I used a TOS link cable and transfered the new tracks over to a blank disc in SP mode from the MDS 302 to another recorder. When I tried the new disc, it worked in the RH1. On the new disc, I had left the transfer unattended so the last track had gone over by a large amount. I erased this last track using the MDS 302 and re-recorded it using the same method as before (MDS 302 as playback, record on other SP machine). I tried the disc with the new addition and it did NOT work in the RH1 OR the MDS-302! So this is some sort of weird problem with the TOC perhaps? Strange huh? I then erased the newly added track and voila, it worked again! The only work around I could do was to transfer the original recording, erase the disc, then start over again. At least I know I can get around the problem now, a little inconvenient, not too bad.

I'm having some problems with an analog recording made on an older Sony home deck model MDS-302. The disc contained some music prior to me adding the new recordings. The RH1 was able to read the disc with the old recording on it, but after adding more material to the disc via the analog input of the home deck, the RH1 no longer recognizes the disc. Tried the disc in three different players and it works in all of them, only the RH1 won't read it, the screen just says "Read Error". Is this some sort of lock out on the RH1 or is it some other problem?

I've been uploading my MDs to my XP computer via SS 4.2 through an RH1 recorder. Every time it finishes uploading an album it asks if I want to register with Gracenote for album info (I've been declining each time). Does Gracenote cause any restrictions or any negative things I may not want? Just trying to be careful about uploading things to my computer as it can be very hard to get rid of them later. Thanks for any advice.

OK, thanks for the help everyone!

Just connected my RH1 to my XP based computer for the first time yesterday. I was able to upload my music to the computer very easily and quickly via SS 4.2, highly recommend this for others thinking of doing the same. My question is, is there a dismounting procedure for the player from the computer similar to what you would do for a flash drive? When I go to the "Safely Remove Hardware" button, it doesn't see the player, even though it's connected via a USB port. Is it OK to just unplug it without doing anything first? What about changing discs while it's still connected to the computer? I know these are basic questions, but I've heard of gadgets being damaged by improperly dismounting from USB ports.

OK, thanks guys, I appreciate the help! I'll probably start converting my music this weekend.

Oh! Ok, that clears that up. Is there any advantage to using an older version like 3.4 vs 4.2?

Hi Everyone, I want to transfer all my MD's to my computer and convert them over to MP3's. I got my hands on an RH1, but have not installed any version of SonicStage yet. A440 mentioned I should use SS 4.2 or 3.4 (thanks A440), but I noticed that 4.3 is the newest version. I'm guessing there's some reason not to use 4.3, and so I should go with 4.2, but thought I'd double check in here before installing anything. I'm running XP with SP2 on my PC. The RH1 came with a CD containing SS 3.4 so I have that available. I haven't installed any version on SonicStage yet, which one should I use?

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to report a very positive experience I had buying from JeffGrado here in the forums. The MD recorder was exactly how he described it and he shipped it to me really fast. I'd definitely buy from him again in the future.

Yup, I figured if I don't do this now, my music collection will be forever divided between my MDs and MP3s. I have quite a bit of music that exists only on MDs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I'd like the option of having access to that music on my computer and MP3 players. It's too bad that MDs never gained popularity in the US, even now, I find the sound quality to be above that of MP3 players. My iPod has passable sound quality, but it's crap compared to MDs. Thanks a bunch for the help, I'm in the process of getting an RH1, can hardly wait!

Hi Avrin, thanks for the help. Wow, I'm surprised that there is only one player/recorder that can upload the older MD content. Perhaps the MZ-RH1/MZ M200 was meant to be a send off model for the MD people. Sounds like they packed all the features we had hoped for over the years into this one model.

Hi Everyone, I used to use MDs a lot a few years ago, so I have a substantial collection of material on MD. What I want to do is copy that material over to my computer and then convert the Atrac files to MP3s. My MD players are all oldies so I do not have the capability to connect to my computer (running Windows XP). I was planning on buying a new or used portable MD player/recorder to get this job done, but I really don't know which player would be best for this task. What would be a good machine to do this with? Can Atrac files be uploaded to a computer faster than realtime (1x)? Is there any software I will need? Never used Sonicstage so I don't have that, but I did just buy a cheap Sony MP3 player that came with software that claims to convert Atrac files to MP3s, is that all I need? Oh, and it says I need to install Open MG on my computer to use the convertor, should I do this or is it invasive?
