I own both, and sounds like sony's answer is the craziest ever heard! I'll try this tomorrow, but I've never heard anything about the A8xx series having video out capabilities, and more, the CPF-NW001 sound station only has a line out exit, wich is very poor indeed. Don't want to call sony a lier, and as I say, I'll try this tomorrow and post the result. If you want to output the videos from your walkman, you can plug it on your PS3 and play it on your TV with an atrocious quality! It will only cost you 299$ (next week new price!) ......... HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

Exactly! Gapless is the main reason I always used Atrac (then battery life and sound quality!). I have a lots of concerts and house megamix CDs, and it's always been a pleasure not to have any unpleasant interruptions. Now I'm pretty worried about that! I read somewhere that WMA used gapless, and last generation Ipods have gapless enabled (that you can specify into Itunes). I tried Windows media player as a music manager, and I'm sorry to say it's far from perfect, not so easy to use, and has a "not so good" tag management. And of course no gapless options to be found...

Well everything is possible: 1) could be a fake 2) The "like.no.other", did it already exist in mid 05? I don't remember... 3) the shape of the "device" (if it is one) is not very 2005 either, but much closer to the actual Samsung walkmans designs. 2005 was the year of A series... (soap bars...) Time will tell my friends (there is actually new walkmans coming up this year. GenerationMP3.com said it at the sony A808 press conference. "This is the first of a long product line this year told SONY").

Zizone, I'm surprised you can also play Atrac lossless on your ps3 from a Walkman. I'm not sure PS3 has the ability to recognize the format yet. Are you sure the track is in lossless? When I plug my walkman (S700 or A800) with AL tracks on it, the tracks are displayed with a "?" and when I play it it says it's an incompatible format. This feature is certainly planned in a future firmware update.

Thanx Ishi for the imput! That's a nice way to explain. Still I find a bit frustrating that such nices devices don't share the same added features! I read though in Generation Mp3 when they were at the Sony Walkman French press conference that A808 was just the first of a long series coming out this year, and that Sonicstage was living its last realeases. So maybe new announces will make us all happier. Then I have to say, I became a crazy collector with all the brand new walkmans... I'll buy the A808 nexr week when it comes out in Tokyo. I touched the demo ones too and it feels very very cool. Thanx again Ishiyoshi.

No recording option as S700? very sad... No FM tuner? No noise canceling...(that's for sure) Why Sony's going backwards with their best ideas??

Well, I have a Japanese PS3, and you can read atrac files (DRM or not) from you Walkman by plugging it through USB. The device will be displayed as an Atrac player, and the list of your player will appear by selecting it (with the CD covers in case you use a S series, maybe A too, I have to check someday...). But you can't import your tracks yet from your walkman. You can import a CD in MP3 WMA or ATrac directly on the PS3 HDD. But the CD covers won't be automaticly downloaded. It's still a bit clunky... Also, it's extremely pushy and long to use a walkman on PS3. Tracks make a long time to be displayed, and to be read by the console. Everything should be fixed in future updates I guess. Then I also can imagine Connect Store will be available for PS3.

Thank you very much Ishi, it works like a charm. Now we just have to prey that SS team gives us UNICODE in the next installment of SS once for all.... (and that Connect Store reborns into Itunes like store, with the same interface for every country, and country select........yeah you can live in two different countries and have two bank accounts...).

I'm having the same problem for months with Applocale and sonicstage, which crashes all the time whenever I go to "transfer mode", and importing jap songs is a real mess, for the titles just don't exist when you don't use applocale etc. I've been looking for a kind of topic where this problem occurs but it seems that it's nowhere to be found. We've reached the 4.2 version in Sonicstage, and for years the basic UNICODE feature hasn't been available yet. This is nonsense compared to Itunes wich has it (and a lot of other cool features and options...but that's not the subject). So people found in Microsoft applocale a tempoirary solution to transfer japanese, chinese etc tracks in their walkmans. This is not a real solution, because you're stuck having infos in one other language only (can't have hebrew, arab, chinese, corean and japanese at the same time for example...). More, CONNECT PLAYER bundled with the A series had unicode. Meaning that every titles imported in CP in japanese or else, just can't be used in SS 4.2. Barvo! But with applocale I can't even transfer correctly my japanese songs. As I said, Sonic stage crashes everytime I want to transfer my songs to a walkman, or even if I plug a walkman to the computer when I'm under Applocale. No matter what. What 's important to notice is that happens with the French version of SS, and seems to better work with an English version like asia pacific. But I loose the connect store, which I want to use to download my previous free albums and couple others I bought. Solution 1: use SS asia pacific (it works if I plug the walkman before launching the programs...) and add a Euro connect store module , but I don't know how to do this Solution 2: find why French SS crashes in transfer mode (or download mode) when Applocale enabled. Solution 3: go to SS team, and force them with a gun to implement unicode in SS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If somebody could help me it would be great, I had so many problems for months with that, I can't even use normally my walkman more than a week without reinstalling, etc. And I don't have hours to spend on this.... They're not the same at all. One is small without IR port, the other is twice bigger, IR port, on of button, volume buttons, and connections for the speakers. The overall quality of this system is excellent. Sound is very very good and powerfull, with bass and all. So don't buy the small cradle is you plan byuing the speaker system. You also have to use the small peace of plastic bundled with the walkman. It doesn't look like being sold seperately...

Well first of all, yes I could boycott it would be the smartest way, but I love these machines, as they sound extremely good and better and better,the battery life is great and the devices are sexy to me. Also I can't buy other stuff. I don't like the other walkmans, and I stick to ATRAC wich to my ears is my favorite. Also ,people already don't buy their stuff... and they don't seem to learn... Then yes I shouldn't be mad if I expected it, but there's always a part of hope as features come little by little (Hi Stuge! I'm back in Japan!). I haven't tried to burn atrac CD sorry. I don't have any Atrac cd reader. See ya.

Hi everybody. You must wonder what kind of revolution brings the brand new version of Sonicstage CP? well, I'm gonna tell you what I've experienced so far with the software. (The software is bundled with the japanese version of the NW-S700F 4go I bought 2 days ago. So I'll talk about the new functions of the walkman as well). First, I've got to tell you there's absolutely nothing to be excited about. Very few improvements. 1) The EXCELLENT: -You can now sort the list of your walkman in the transfer window by albums. Previously you only could see by artists or by playlist wich was really hard to delete an album with several artists) -Normalisation: not from sonicstage, but from the Walkman itself!!! wich is far better I think. No need to create new versions of your MP3/Atrac or lose their original volume. 2)The good: -I don't remember seeing it in 4.0, but a new codec appears. HE-AAC. Someone cares? -A new option "import" appears in the transfer window, to import what you recorded on the S700 walkman. 3) The bad -Slower than before, and transfers to the walkman is really slow. -Oddly, every cd covers don't transfer to the walkman. Some do some others don't... annoying. Tagging in sonictage has a lot of issues... 3) the "NOW I'M REALLLLY MAD!!!" -as expected still no UNICODE solution. Still a pain in the ass to use jap, chinese, hebrew or anything alse than your OS language allows!!! Don't even think to import different MP3 tagged in different languages. It simply doesn't work. Applocale still makes the program crash when you connect the walkman... etc. I'm going to write a petition to SONY, for this can no longer be!!!! I hope many of you will sign it! Of course, every tracks you ripped in jap, chinese etc in CONNECT Player is useless. Do they really care about sony's consumers? I don't think so. About the player in a few words, the sound is absolutely fantastic: wonderful bass, clear stereo is neat, noise canceling works fine (you can adjust its sensibility), and the screen is better than before. You still have problems to read in sunshine, but you manage to see something (not the case with A series...). Less fingerprints problems. But If you want more infos, we'll talk about that in another thread in the hardware section. If you have any questions about SS CP 4.1, go ahead. By the way, only the japanese version and US versions were on the CD. Japanese version is no longer to be selected in an occidental OS (I use a French one...). too bad.

I had a look on japanese Sony walkman site, and they talk about SOnicstage CP 4.1 with the new functions as importing tracks recorded by the new N700/600 series and transfering art covers... well... is this really a novelty? we already could do that with Hi-MD and Vaio Pocket right? Other that that I'm not really confident in any step foward in the next SS CP... I kind of gave up on UNICODE... I just don't get it, why don't they put it? I can't transfer my tracks from CP to SS CP in japanese! lame. At this point it's the only thing I'd wish they implement to be happy with my walkmans.

I was gonna say Gapless too, but you say that it's no longer an issue on Ipods??? wow. I'm close to chage too! Well, why would I stock to atrac? because I still believe that the combo sony walkman and atrac deliver an excellent sound quality I'm used with. Then the battery lasts very lon on atrac devices. But the main issues of atrac devices even the most recent ones are becoming such a hell, that when I see what apple does avey 6 months, when I see how cool is Itunes and Itunes music store etc. I'm starting to feel really really bad. UNICODE as you is my 1rst problem. Connect player who has been horrible for me, with its huge lack of option, bad design, bad use etc. still had unicode. But couldn't be used as Itunes nor Sonicstage. Then Sonicstage CP, still no Unicode, impossible to import the >1000 japanese titles, nor import jap CDs (even with applocale, it simply crashes the program when sending to atrac device, and mess up everythinh... even after a clean PC format). Sony still doesn't offer a nice store. Their DRM managment is shit. Still no movies for PSP, still no Ereader book, most astonishing: no gapless atrac titles sold on connect music store. Well, all of this makes me sick I have 2 atrac walkmans I kind of like, but now my love is slightly desapearing because of the lack of reactivity, creativity, and competitivity from sony (probably too busy with their PS3 hard birth push). I'm waiting for the new generation of service and Walmans from SONY, but really, Ipods start to be a must these days, they go foward like nobody else.

If they wanted to keep it as a selling point, they would put all the Atrac connect music store tracks gapless. But unfortunatly, and it's quite stupid, Connect store tracks are NOT gapless, so what's the point then? ah lala...sony...

I haven't checked the first starrt, but SS takes about 10 sec or less to start. No problem for me. (CP= about 1min 30/2 minutes to start...)

Don't worry, I intend to say I liked Connect player nor it was better than SS. I hate Connect player, it's a horrible piece of software, and I always loved the new functions of SS (internet infos, cover art, interface, tags edition etc etc)... It's just that when you change from 3 to 4 you are looking for a real change and major updates! As you perfectly say, it's the good old SS with A serie functions. Nothing to leap for joy.

I'm using a japanese A-3000 model with a euro connect player software (Euro SS as well) in French language. My Windows OS is a French one. When I first bought A-3000, Kana search was displayed. Then when I connected to Euro COnnect Player it simply disapeared. I can't install Jap version of SS on my OS, and even if I could I'd lose the euro connect store I sometimes use to buy French music (I live in Japan). You said that Kanji search came with English alphabet and not "etc"? well not my case even on a Japanese A series walkman... Sony softs men are really getting on my nerves! everything shoud be available and we could set up as we like!

Exactly! but I thought then that it was probably in purpose. SS is compatible with all Atrac devices, and can import MD/Hi-MD recordings, so maybe synchronising with all that stuff could be troublesome... so they may plan to offer other solutions in the future... what would be nice is check boxes on albums we'd want to be synchronised with the player (auto umploads and auto info changes)...

I think we're gonna have to stick to Connect player a little longer...pffff... I'm pissed off. Too bad since the constumisable artist link in SS4 is excellent... will we have someday the ultimate soft from SONY or is it too much to ask?
