Thanks. I've downloaded it. Next problem: I can't get it to record! I've connected my MD player from the headphone socket to the In socket on the PC's audio sockets. The music is playing through the speakers, but doesn't appear to be recording on Audacity (only low white noise records). Any thoughts on this?

Many thanks for the quick response. Of course, you're right, the model no does begin with MZ (I read it off the surface which had worn away) - you guys really know your stuff! I have a new PC with various software included. Is it likely that I can use one of these programmes or will I need to get hold of something like audacity? Is there somewhere I can download this software or is it best to get a CD (from the linked site) to upload? Ta, lnr

I'm a bit of a technophobe and don't really understand a lot of the threads posted here. Can you help? My question is this: I have a Sony MD (model M2-R5C1)with optical line in and analogue headphone socket. How can I upload music to my PC, so that it recognises it as an input rather than just automatically playing it through the speakers?
