i have a sony mz-r55 and the sound is deminished in the left stereo channel. is this fixable?

these aren't the rechargeable battery. i'm using disposable ones that fit into the optional battery pack that screws onto the side of the player

soon after (a few minutes) putting new batteries in i get a low battery signal and the device shuts off. can anyone offer a suggestion on how to fix this thanks, niall
