thats what i thought would work too. maybe i should just try it again and see what happens. there isnt any data that gets burned onto the cd that would cause this then?
-
but i even tried to get the music onto another computer with a cd i burned, and once i brought the songs back here, (after saving them onto my HI-MD from the other PC) it still didnt work. the files must be encoded with some sort of codec (is that the proper term?) or something because even when attempting to play them with windows media player, i get a pop up for licence aquisition through napster. what a crock. i guess i could record them analog off the cd, or would optical recording work from a cd player? i probably wont go through the trouble over a few songs, but its just annoying
-
why wont sony support napster downloaded tracks for converting to atrac? I Bought a bunch of tracks from napster (before i got the MD) and when i try to transfer them to the HI-MD, it doesnt work. (says transfer not allowed) is there a way around this? i know that sony can be a pain with copyright issues, etc.. so why wont they let me transfer a song that was actually PAID for????

i was ripping some music off of a friends computer, which right there is something i know sony doesnt want you to do, but it is possible now with hi-md because you can save the music files to the MD as removable storage device (or whatever they call it when you hook up to USB). the pain in the ass is getting the files loaded up to sonicstage on my computer. the songs dont show up on the MD songlist, so i have to transfer the folders into the my music folder on my PC and then go into sonicstage and do a music file search to get them in there. does anybody have a better way to do this? I know i shouldnt really be pirating music but its usually for music that i did own at one point in time and i just dont want to go buy another copy after losing or scratching the cd ('s) I hate cds by the way. thats why i bought the minidisc player, so i can throw the discs around a little bit and not worry about damaging them.
-
Hey, they dont make a HI-MD player for a car do they? i havent seen minidisc decks in cars for a while. there are used units on ebay, but a net-md unit wont play hi-md discs, correct? i've seen some nice sony cd decks with an aux-in on the front which i will probably end up getting, i just thought it would be nicer to pop the disc right in and control it from the head unit and not have a bunch of cables dangling everywhere. right now i have to use the headphones if i want to listen to my minidisc stuff in the car (thats really stupid)

yeah, i think that the reason i did buy this unit was that i did some research on the web and saw it advertised with a backlight remote. what a bunch of bs!
-
now that you bring up the universal remote, RM-MC40ELK , i started loking into it and it seems that sony doesnt make it anymore. a guy in australia is selling some on ebay, but i dont see my player model listed on the compatibiliy chart. sonys website doesnt show much either. will this work with my mz nhf800?

i think i would be interested in that recording. was it from this tour? the show last night was really mind blowing. those guys are just amazing. its better off that i didnt bring the thing, because our seats were right on the aisle and this dude from security kept shining a flashlight up the aisleway, and he would have seen what i was doing for sure. anyway i havent bought a mic yet. i have been looking at some concealable stereo electret mics that arent that expensive. i should definitly get the battery powered one, right?
-
if i do a search of the unit on the web, i keep coming up with pictures of it, like this one : http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_Hi_MD_Walkman...7-30963793.html in the picture it shows the screen on the remote lit up. that sucks. i thought i was getting that remote when i bought this thing. can i use another remote or not?
-
ok, i am reading up on this unit and it seems as if the remote is supposed to be backlight with a green light. mine doesnt though. is it broken, or do i need to hit a button to activate it? the manual says nothing that i can find about the light.???

My net-md unit wasn't cutting it for me. not so much because of the disc space,(although 1gb of storage is sweet) but because mine didnt have a mic-in and i really wanted to record(i even tried a sony powered mic and the vol. level was still too low). so i sold it and just got a mz-nhf800, and it's great. i havent tried recording yet, but i am anxious to do it. i almost tried to sneak it into a concert last night and make a bootleg, but i didnt know how much they would really pat me down at the gates, with security being how it is nowadays. (it was a Tool concert at nassau colesium in NY) the only thing about this player that is bugging me is the lack of light on the screen. when i ordered it the description said "backlight" but apparantly there isnt one. i can change the contrast setting, which helps in low light situations, but in the car when i'm playing minidiscs through the stereo it sucks to have to turn the interior light on when i want to see what song is playing. anybody have this player? are there other likes/dislikes?

you said i should get the hi-md JUST so i can upload my tunes to a PC?? i can do that with my current unit, or any minidisc recorder cant i? i would think the major advantage of the hi-md format is the 40 hour discs, and the ability to use it as a additional computer drive if needed. thanks for the advice on the mic, though. i may consider one of those mics, because even if i switch to a nicer recorder eventually, i can still use this mic.

is the net md recorder mz-n510ck compatible with any microphones? it only has a line-in and the manual does not mention using a mic. i have seen alot of mics on the market with bettery packs in-line, but the only one i have tried is the Sony ECMMS907 (which has a single AA in the mic) http://www.amazon.com/Sony-ECMMS907-Digita...p;s=electronics when i used this mic i had to set the line in level to max and the recording still came out with a low vol. i emailed a sony rep and they said i cant use this mic with my unit. why is this? are all powered mics the same as far as signal output? i dont know much about this stuff, i just need to either find a mic i can use with my line-in, or get a different unit that has a mic-in. i wish i new about this before i bought it, but my friend told me that the powered mics work fine with line-in so i believed him.

hey, i just joined the forum, i hope some people here can give me some tips on usinig my net-md recorder.i'm trying to record live music with it. i just bought it from ebay a month or two ago, its a sony Net MD MZ-N510CK, which doesn't have a mic-in port, but my buddy had one once and he said you can use the line in with a powered mic. i borowed his sony powered mic, and it works, but i have to set the line level for recording all the way to 30 and the final recording comes out at a low volume. of course i tried everything like checking the batteries, etc.. i even contacted customer service via email with sony, and they advised me that the model # on the mic i'm using is not compatible with my MD. i asked which mic IScompatible, and they didnt really have an answer. i see alot of independent companies on the web selling stereo mics with battery boxes in-line, which look cool because you can hide the two small mics under the brim of your hat or something if you want to bootleg a concert. anyway, has anybody used one of these mics? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A%3AIT&rd=1 its 80 bucks and if i spend that much and it doesnt work that will suck. i also have been considering getting a new hi-md unit. i found some good prices on them, and i know they have mic-in plugs. any ideas? should i get a better unit???
