I do have the red light on the optical cable. I checked that a couple of times and had to unplug the USB once to get it to come back on, but it has been on.

I have an old MZ-R700 and I listen to disks on a regular basis, but have not recorded anything in a number of years. I have my optical cable with the MD-PORT DG2 that I used to use. I have plugged it into my PC - I'm running Windows XP. I can get the sound settings to show they are using DG2, but the MD player says "no signal". I need to create a disk for Monday and I'm leaving town tomorrow. Can you please help? Oh, my playback mechanisms on my PC - I have Windows Media Player v11 or itunes. Thanks!
