bsmuir Posted October 2, 2004 Report Share Posted October 2, 2004 Hi I have a Sony N510 and have the modified SS2 installed on my computer running XP Pro SP1. I have sucessfully used SS2 to make numerous MDs, that is until now... I hadn't used SS2 for about 4 months and when I did go to transfer files to a blank MD, SS2 came up with an error saying "file type not suppported, cannot transfer selected files". This happens whether its an mp3 or wav file and even on files I have sucessfully transfered in the past. I have uninstalled SS2 and re-installed it numerous times to try and remedy this situation but to no avail. I can still play mp3 and wav files in SS2, I just cannot trransfer them. I read somewhere that SS2 uses direct show audio filters/decoders to transfer and convert files so I thought that maybe SS2 is unable to detect a needed decoder or something. Also I cannot even initialize an MD, so could this be a hardware problem? Christopher Posted October 2, 2004 Report Share Posted October 2, 2004 How to properly reinstall NetMD: WARNING: If you use a Sony VAIO with preinstalled software provided by Sony or use other software developed by Sony, do not follow the procedure below. 1. Uninstall all OpenMG related software via the Add/Remove Programs control panel and reboot as necessary. This includes, but is not limited to, OpenMG 2.2, related 'Limited Patches' and the 'Secure Module', SonicStage 1.x/2.x, Simple Burner 1.x/2.x, and software by RealNetworks. Make sure that you unplug your unit before doing so. 2. If you run Windows XP/Windows 2000 Professional, proceed to delete the following directories: "Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSony Corporation", "Program FilesCommon FilesSony Shared", "Program FilesSony". 3. Start -> Run -> regedit. The 'Registry Editor' utility should appear on your screen. Delete the references to OpenMG located under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSony Corporation' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareSony Corporation' by right-clicking on the entries. 4. Disabling any anti-virus software that is running in the background to free up some resources [if necessary]. Update your installation of Windows at Microsoft Windows Update (windowsupdate.microsoft.com). For Windows 2000 Professional users, you are recommended to upgrade to Service Pack 3 or later. Make sure that your unit is disconnected and install the latest build of SonicStage 2.x from Sony Connect/Sony Connect Europe. The drivers for Sony units will automaticaly be installed. (If you use a Panasonic or Sharp Hi-MD/NetMD unit, install your drivers before you install the actual software!) Restart if prompted to do so; if not, it is still recommended that you do so. bsmuir Posted October 3, 2004 Author Report Share Posted October 3, 2004 I've already tried this numerous times but I always get the same result with the same error message. As SS2 used to work I thought that it must be a codec error that is conflicting with SS2. I read somewhere that other Sony software may cause conflicts with SS2, because I have a Sony video camera (which also uses the same usb cable as the Net MD) and the video software installed as well, does anyone know whether this can cause conflicts with SS2?
