Also mic recommendations. 1. I have about 300 dollars to spend just on the md player/recorder 2. I have about 120 dollars to spend on a mic or pair of mics. 3. I will be recording lectures, small jazz concerts in small clubs, and Live jamband style concerts in big theaters and outside. 4. Where should i buy this equipment? Are there better places than others? Thank you to whoever replies, it is much appreciated Alex

Christopher
Welcome to the forums. Why don't you take a look at the new Hi-MD models? I would suggest you look into the NH900. It's the perfect middleman model for newbies and recording enthusiasts. This model can be had @ datavis.com for only $239ish USD. As for microphone recommendations, please search, check out our friend Reactive Sounds and look in the Live Recording forum.
kindherm
ok, i started looking at the nh900 and everything looks good, except only being able to set the record level at high or low, is this going to be alright even if i am recording a loud jam concert in a auditorium? Or is this problem corrected by getting the right preamp. thanks alex
Christopher
A little bit of both. Ask some questions in the Live Recording forum if you're still having difficulty after obtaining the unit and various users will help you from there. I would also recommend searching, too.
