KJ_Palmer
In terms of portables, only the original, the MZ-1 had optical out. You might find one on eBay. Plenty of full size home decks have optical outs, one of the most recent being the MDS-JB980. None of the more recent Hi-MD units have optical out (yet), though they can (just about) upload digitally to a PC...
phonophobie
Features: * The first Minidisc unit on the market. * ATRAC 1. * 10-second shock-resistant memory, 10 key direct track access. * Shuffle, repeat, program play modes, auto-resume, backlit LCD display for disc name, track name, time. * Bass boost. * Track divide, combine, swap, erase. * Disc and track (21 chars max) titling functions. * Date and time memo. * 1 hour continuous record on BP-MZ1 NiCad battery pack. thanks.. it´s a bit outdated right would it be possible to use the optical out in "realtime" when recording? mic´s>md(recordmode)>optical out>hardisc recorder(recordmode) you know forget about it! this sucks. I will buy me a preamp and a used minidic for my old recordings.
KJ_Palmer
Oh well, sorry, that's all there is :rasp: Then again, I've not heard it, but maybe the MZ-1's optical out might be of useful quality for 'uploading', etc. as long as the recordings are made on a machine with, say ATRAC 4.0 or higher. The recording quality of course would be woeful, but maybe the decoding might be up to it. Interesting to find out, if anyone owns this beauty. Well sort of... OK stop waffling... phonophobie
yeah... things are not that easy if you want the best solution. i noticed most md-recorders are getting cheaper and cheaper. all i need is a normal md.. if it can record in good quality it would be even better. Any suggestions what to get? I was thinking about the sharp newer dr series...
KJ_Palmer
I have the IM-DR420. A nice recorder, though I'm a bit suspicious about the 1 bit amp colouring the output a bit much, and the 4 pole connector being weird. Overall I prefer Sony's conventionality.. Christopher
You can always employ a Hi-MD unit, which can now upload faster than real-time to the computer via usb with marcnet's utility. You can also upload in real-time via usb to the computer as well. Was there a specific need for optical out..?
