Hi I am pretty new to the MD world. I am having problems with Sonic Stage 2.0. It is not recognizing my disks, even when it had previously read the disk When I go to transfer I get this...

Cannot use this disk as an audio disk because it is intialized by other than Sonic Stage

Click device/media button and intialize disk to use it as an audio disk.

So, just to let you know the disk in MZ-NH900 had a few albums that I had transferred a couple of weeks. Sonic Stage did recognize the disk with the music on it - but later on, the same evening, it did not. I also put a new blank disc in and Sonic Stage gave me the above the message. I have restarted my computer a few times and I am still getting this message, regardless of the disk. Please help I want to listen to music away from my computer!

Hi there,

I'm quite new to the forums as well. I've been trolling through the sony website to try to get an answer to that problem too and have come up with nothing. I'm wondering if this is a relative new problem. What I've done to try and fix it is uninstall most of my critical updates (the problem seemed to occur after installing service pack 2 on Winxp pro)service pack 2. I've uninstalled/reinstalled stupid sonic stage 2 numerous times all with that same stupid message. sony are the kings of bad tech support and there website only offers support to the most basic questions. Please please if theres anyone out there that knows a fix for this please post something here. I like minidiscs but the idea of shot putting my md out the window is looking better each passing day

Hi there again rdbyk.

Just to let you after looking around this place I came across this thread

http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t...ight=initialize

'Unplug player. Close SonicStage and restart Windows.

Take the battery out of the player and leave it out for a minute.

Reinsert battery.

When Windows is up again, start SonicStage, when it is fully loaded, plug in the player.

If the discs are conventional discs, initialize them in NetMD mode, that way everything is deleted, then initialize again in Hi-MD mode.

That should usually solve the problem. '

For some other possible fixes just do a search on this site for the word 'initialize'.

Follow that thread and all should be well.

Many thanks minidisc.org

Also, please try this if all else fails:

How to properly reinstall NetMD:

WARNING: If you use a Sony VAIO with preinstalled software provided by Sony or use other software developed by Sony, do not follow the procedure below.

1. Uninstall all OpenMG related software via the Add/Remove Programs control panel and reboot as necessary. This includes, but is not limited to, OpenMG 2.2, related 'Limited Patches' and the 'Secure Module', SonicStage 1.x/2.x, Simple Burner 1.x/2.x, and software by RealNetworks. Make sure that you unplug your unit before doing so.

2. If you run Windows XP/Windows 2000 Professional, proceed to delete the following directories: "Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataSony Corporation", "Program FilesCommon FilesSony Shared", "Program FilesSony".

3. Start -> Run -> regedit. The 'Registry Editor' utility should appear on your screen. Delete the references to OpenMG located under 'HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSony Corporation' and 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareSony Corporation' by right-clicking on the entries.

4. Disabling any anti-virus software that is running in the background to free up some resources [if necessary]. Update your installation of Windows at Microsoft Windows Update (windowsupdate.microsoft.com). For Windows 2000 Professional users, you are recommended to upgrade to Service Pack 3 or later. Make sure that your unit is disconnected and install the latest build of SonicStage 2.x from Sony Connect/Sony Connect Europe. The drivers for Sony units will automaticaly be installed. (If you use a Panasonic or Sharp Hi-MD/NetMD unit, install your drivers before you install the actual software!) Restart if prompted to do so; if not, it is still recommended that you do so. Plug in your unit, and start SonicStage 2.x.
