infoman
Hi I've got a Vivanco EM216 microphone. It comes with an additional box which has on/off and stereo/mono switches. The box is powered by a 1.5V AA battery. Is this a battery box? I've had this for 3.5 years but never used the box itself. I always plugged the mic directly into the mic socket of my old R900. I have recently got a Sony NH900 and I am shortly going to record a concert which will have very loud and very quite parts. If so should I be plugging my microphone into the box and into the line in socket or should I be plugging both the box and mic though the mic socket? When I plugged the mic directly into my old R900, if I didn't get the manual record settings right, then the recording would distort. If I went to much the other way then the recording would be to quite. Does any one know how long a batter would last using the box? Thank you

infoman
Thanks for the reply. I'm not certain how that compares to other microphones with battery boxes in terms of spec. I tried the battery box and it turns out that it worked okay. However after the support act I couldn't see any bars on my minidisc recorder so I wasn't 100% certain if it recorded. I thought the minidisc recorders had bars to show the volume they were playing. I thought my old R900 had some but memories can be strange and no doubt the R900 had nothing of the sort. After all it does have a volume bar when to adjust the headphone volume. So I switched back to using the mic socket. I forgot the machine was set to high mic sensitivity and even on 14/30 for manual rec volume, it all distorted. This happened every time the bass guitar was played, which being a rock concert was quite often. I did have tape back up but even that didn't work out all that well. It only managed 45 minutes of the main act. Still I've learnt from my mistakes and at least I captured something even if it is all distorted.
