hi, ive decided i want to buy a new minidisc but im not sure which model yet, i know there are many different types but all i want is a simple minidisc that i can plug into either my pc or hi fi, press record and its done, i dont need any special features, just record and play, but with a decent quality of sound, any ideas anyone?

It depends on your budget and whether or not you need extra features (like a radio). It might also relate to your brand preference, if you have one (ie. Sony or Sharp etc.), and if you're interested in the latest Hi-Tech features of the new Hi-MD units, or happy with the standard MD features...

Our sponsors have many exciting MD portables for sale, perhaps if you have a look, see what you like and specify your budget we can take this further. Sorry, but there is a bewildering choice out there....

This is a good place to start: http://store.yahoo.com/minidisco-store/portables.html

thanks for your help, id be willing to spend up to about £150, and ive been happy with sony minidiscs but im willing to try others if they are good, also im fine with the standard minidisc features, i dont need radio or anything else, just play and record with good quality sound and other simple features if possible, nothing exceptional needed.

Hmmm, how about the Sharp IM-DR420 (or 410) if you don't need a mic input. Digital amp, clear and fairly powerful sound (for today's minidiscs). I'd also recommend the Sony MZ-NH700 - you get the benefits of Hi-MD (PC storage, longer recording times etc.), but also full compatibility with older MD units.

As you seem to be in the UK, why not pop down to your local Dixons/Curries or Richer sounds. Most modern recorders would be good for you...

Kevin's recommendation of the DR420 is a sound one. It is in fact a NetMD model and can be used like a wannabe MP3 player (blargh) but more importantly, it's a good unit. While it is the "budget" model Sharp Auvi, it is much more solidly constructed than the Sony low-end models. The Auvi 1-bit units tend to sound quite warm and nice.
