Harrison
First of all, hello to everyone at the board! Looks like a very nice place you have here! I was wondering if anyone could help me: i have just purchased a black mznh900 Hi-MD minidisc player from amazon.co.uk, to replace my old Sony Discman which is skipping more and more despire the ESP2. Anyway, the new minidisc player looks to be great! However, i have one question: Is the battery that comes with it an rechargeable AA sized battery, or is it a differetly shaped rechargeable one? Looking at auctions like this leads me to believe it is a thin square battery pak? It also come with a battery extension type-thing which allows a standard AA battery to be plugged in (a 'dry' battery pack?) I would have preferred it to take standard batteries, as i have found in the past that supplied sony AA rechargeable batteries dont last that long. If this is a different battery type, will it last longer overtime/for playback? I hope I got a good minidisc player, i was originally going to opt for the 700, but some 900 features(like uploading of recordings) made me change my mind. Got a really good price on it from amazon too £169.99GBP (with free sony case) compared with £250GBP in the shops. Any advice/resposes you could give me would be very much appreciated. Thank you. jadeclaw
The NH900 uses a gumstick battery. Depending on your source, you can get them as low as 9 US$/Euros. From this thread: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=5711 It amazes me the corners Sony will cut to save a few bucks. The gumstick battery that comes with this unit [aka NH-10WM] is a lowly battery that doesn't offer the maximum amount of life that a gumstick battery can offer. I recommend an immediate replacement. The best battery you can employ is a higher capacity gumstick dubbed the Sony NH14WM. I would suggest you try shopping eBay [usually the cheapest there - keep an eye on the shipping prices though :rasp:], froogle, your local retailer, or favorite e-tailer. Make sure you get this battery in the 1400mAh or 1450mAh variety! Employing this battery should give you a very favorable increase in battery life.Btw, the NH700 can upload as well, but the NH900 has better editing functions. and a LCD-Remote. The included batterycase takes one AA-cell. You can use rechargeables in it, but you have to charge these separately. The NH900 charges only the internal gumstick. ziggy910
The supplied battery is of fairly low capacity. I have recently bought a high capacity replacement (1750 mAh!). I'm in the UK and the battery was sent fm Japan. It arrived in a little over a week. I also bought from them a 3 line remote control (RM-MC40ELK), which I'm very pleased with. It's far superior to the supplied one line remote (I've also got a MZ-NH900). Anyway, if you are interested, this is the site the stuff came from http://www.bargaining4all.com/catalog/default.php HTH, Tony
