keith runfola
Hi. I'm a musician and I want to do some live recording. I have a few questions about Hi-Md. My understanding so far is that I can record via a mic input in PCM 44.1, 16bit quality and then upload to the computer at very hi speed. Is this the case? Will I ever run into copy protection issues if I'm only recording live, non copywritten material? Are these units available in the US? I have yet to see one. Is Hi-Md going to be a flash in the pan or will it be around for a while? (get out your crystal ball Are any other companies making or planning to make Hi-Md units? Thanks! xeroxide
lol, I bought the hi-md for this very reason. I am also a musician (violinist) and wanted a quick/easy way to record rehearsals (quartets/trios/sonatas etc...) - havn't done much in terms of jazz but i love improvisation  The live recordings can be transfered to hdd and then converted to wav. Quite a few people have reported problems with the transfer (this has never been the case for me - I usually record in PCM mode, sometimes in Hi-SP on a normal disc). You can only transfer the file to computer once! do not loose this copy if you really want it otherwise you will have to transfer in real time. I was also worried about 1gb hi-md going to disappear, but i then realised I only need a few discs and a mic for my purposes cause i can reuse the discs many times over. A friend of mine has had his minidisc for live recording since 1996, he's only ever bought 2 discs and he's still using that same two discs! hope this helps. keith runfola
Thanks for that info. Is the one time transfer thing because of some kind of copy protection? Do you have a mic that you are happy with? I have a friend who records to DAT and uses some kind of Audio Technica that seem to do really well. Thanks again, keith runfola www.jazzdrummer.com
