Loud concert recording question

This may have been covered already, but I'll post it anyway. My setup is a Sony MZ-R70 recorder & an ECM-717 mic, the mic has a battery compartment & power switch although I have not used this yet, I usually connect via the powered mic in connection. I want to make a live concert audience recording but I am unsure whether to use the mic with power on and connect via the line in socket. I always use the manual rec level as opposed to auto, I'm just not sure which input to use ??

If you have a battery powered mic with battery power, use the line in.

I appreciate that this seems to be the general concensus of opinion, it's just the the input signal seems very week on the level indicator even with the manual level at max. I am now using a battery box instead of the 1.5v mic battery, I have been trying to simulate loud music using Hi Fi.

The show I want to record is tonight and still unsure whether or not to risk line in being too quiet or mic in being distorted !! Please someone take this decision out of my hands !! :wacky:
