Is Joystick Operation for Sony Hi-MD Units as bad as MZ-N10?

I own a MZ-N10, and hate operating it because I don't like using a remote. This reveals some problems:

1) It is so damn hard to operate it with one hand!

2) That scroll wheel is too small!

3) The joystick-like control is so aggrivating!!!! Too small!

Now, I was considering buying a Hi-MD unit, either the 700, 800, or 900, but seeing that joystick in the middle of the wheel really turns me off. BUT, unlike the N10 it is not shielded by the plastic casing so closely.

To owners and gurus of Hi-MD units:

1) Is the joystick on the Hi-MD units less stiff and easier to operate than on the N10?

2) Can I operate these new units with one hand?

3) Should I choose a 700/800 over a 900 because the only thing that really sets the 900 apart is a 3-line LCD remote that I would make no use of?

Thanks

Having access to a 700 I can your questions...

To owners and gurus of Hi-MD units:

A bit easier yes. Generally the lower-end models are a little more ergonomic than the minimalist top-end models.

2) Can I operate these new units with one hand?

Yes, it is possible depending on how dexterous you are.

3) Should I choose a 700/800 over a 900 because the only thing that really sets the 900 apart is a 3-line LCD remote that I would make no use of?

Only the "World Tourist" nh900 model has the three-line remote, otherwise its supplied with a remote similar to that of the N10. The nh900 however differs from those other two models because of the so-called high definition digital amp and the use of gumstick cell making it thinner. See here for more differences.
