km9000
I've had the MZ-NF610 for less than a year and the remote is starting to malfunction for MD playback, which seemed inevitable based on some reviews (the radio is fine). The remote is #RM-MC37LT, and I'm looking around for a cheap replacement, but none seem to list the 610 as compatible, probably because they don't incorporate the tuner. Is there a substitute that would work with the 610, preferably backlit (I believe some 610 units include backlit remotes)? I'd hate to spend more on the same model if it's just going to break down again. Also, is there a way to extend the life of MD/CD remotes? I'm guessing the wire just wears down in time, and it makes the idea of an MP3 player much more appealing, but until any of them include AM tuners, I have to stick with MD. Thanks for any help. Hyena
Well, the RM-MC37LT cannot be found on the Sony Direct Accessories And Parts Center, however audiocubes.com does stock the remote under the price of $229. That of course, is absolute insanity. Unfortunately, if you're looking for a tuner remote, you'd be hard pressed to find one for cheaper than that from any r/e-tailer, save for searching on eBay. (As a note, there are no versions of the MC37LT remote that are backlit) Excluding the tuner option, there are quite a few remotes that are available to you. At audiocubes.com there is the RM-MC11EL which is the cheapest at audiocubes for $49. There is also the RM-MC33EL remote for the same price, which I believe is pretty much the same remote, however redesigned a bit, and a little smaller/sleeker. As to longetivity of remotes, I would recommend not putting too much stress on the remote's wire, and taking better care of the remote, and not putting it through so much stress. I am not insinuating that you are beating the little thing with a large salmon, but the best way to extend the life of remotes is to take care of them. Short of that, things happen and remotes die. If you are so lucky though, check to see exactly how much time has passed and see if your unit is still under warranty.
