New ATRAC3plus bit rates for the NW-E107

Question

My friend has a NW-E107 - I have a NW-S23. On mine, I can downsample to all of the new bitrates - he can only downsample to 192 (which is just like my NW-HD1). I noticed that mine shows up in SS as a Network Walkman device, while the NW-E107 shows up as an ATRAC Audio Device (just like the NW-HD1).

Does anyone know anything about this... why would an older unit (the S23) have more functionality than the newer E107? And is there some way to force how a unit is recognized by SS?

Thanks.

Welcome to ALC.

I am not certain why newer devices can't utilize all the new bit rates. Perhaps, it is related to the fact that these devices are designated as AAD (ATRAC Audio Device); and most likely has an on-board bit rates band restriction.

I believe a firmware update is required to use all the new bit rates - just like how PSP Firmware 2.0 incorporates all new ATRAC3plus bit rates for the PSP.
