Hot Tub Man #1
Hi. I bought a Sony MZ-NE810 mini disc player/recorder about 5 months ago from a pawn shop (although not in the sense of a traditional American pawn shop- the store is called "Hard-Off" if anyone's familiar with that chain of stores) when I was in Japan. Anyway, about a month from when I bought the unit, it would not power up. No matter what I did- whether pressing buttons on the remote or the main unit- the unit would not turn on. However, after leaving the MD alone for 3 days, the unit would power up again. Ever since then, the problem has been sporadic and infrequent. Also, whenever this happened, the unit would only refuse to power up for, at most, a few hours. However, recently the unit's been refusing to power up at all. I'm not quite sure how to remedy it this time, since I've let it sit in it's charger cradle for about two weeks and it's still refusing to power up. Now, I've already e-mailed Sony technical support in Japan when the problem first started, and they said to return the unit to the retailer that I bought it from. Unfortunately, I bought the unit from what was essentially a pawn shop and I didn't think I could return it (and besides, it started working shortly after, so I felt no need to return it). Now that I'm in the US, I'm unable to return the unit to the store. So, I'm kinda limited in my options... I've also tried to read the manual, but the manual is in Japanese with no English section. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Fat Tires
You may have a bad gumstick battery. Have you tried to use a different gumstick battery, or tried to use the player with the AA battery connected?
Hot Tub Man #1
I tried using the player with the AA battery connected- no luck. I'll try and get my hands on a replacement gumstick battery and see if that works, but that'll take me a few days... Assuming that doesn't work, would that mean I'm SOL? What would be my options from there? Thanks.
Fat Tires
It seems like a power issue, so the issue is probably a battery, battery contact, or something internal to the power supply. Try cleaning the internal battery contacts with isopropyl alchohol on a cotton swab. That can at least clean the battery contacts.
Hot Tub Man #1
I tried cleaning all the battery contacts- no luck there, either. I'll see if I can pick up another gumstick battery. Hope that works...
Fat Tires
Good luck. If that doesn't work, then you're in trouble.
