DRM-Less Atrac Transfer Times

Anyone else notice how much slower transfering atrac files that have been encoded without DRM is? It is over 4x slower on my machine! (I am running on a P4 3.2Ghz, 2GB DDR Ram, XP Pro, SS 3.2)

I sure it's because SS have to "wrap" the file in DRM before transferring but why is it sooo much slower? Or maybe Sony does it on purpose so that you will want to rip your files using the DRM.

I haven't really used mp3's much but are they this much slower too?

Hopefully Sony does something about this in future releases.

I am sure conversion speed varies with PCs; and I am not certain what you would define as fast. In any case, it only takes about 9 seconds to convert a track of approximately 4.10mins (from CD) to non-DRM ATRAC3plus 320kbps with my system (which is somewhat dated compared to yours). In my opinion, that is relatively fast.

Alright. In that case, transfer times of SonicStage 3.2 (using non-DRM tracks) is more or less the same with SonicStage 3.1 at my end. No significant change.

That's odd. Maybe it has something to do with my HD1?

In SS 3.2 I have both DRM and DRM-Less Atrac3+ @256kbps. The files with DRM were encoded with 3.1. And when I transfer the DRM files they are lightening fast. The DRM-Less take more than 4x longer, Strange. :ol_groucho:

I have also noticed that transfers are much slower with non-DRM Atrac files. A track that would take a second to transfer to my HD1 now takes at least a couple of seconds, and my assumption was also that during transfer the file was being DRM'ed. It's still acceptable, but they should find a better way of doing that. I think it would be better if they just encrypted the folder in which they put all music files, instead of doing it for each file.
