northd
MD's that play fine in my MZ-R90 skip, pause, and cut out completely at various points of the recordings when I play them back on a Sony JE-530. I have had the same problem with a variety of MD's. I have tried this using optical and analog connections to my receiver and the problem exists under both sets of conditions. I bought the 530 used on Ebay. I have had problems with about 5 MD's now. The sound is exceptional for 95-99% of the playback, but there are just a few areas on each MD that have problems. It's not the same area on each MD, but each time a play a particular MD, the problem on that MD always appears at the same point. For example, on MD #1, the problem always appears first at 3:08, then several other places on the MD playback. On MD #2, the problem always appears at 10:42 and 14:31. On MD #3, the problem appears at 5:34 and 7:32, ETC. Any thoughts? These are different types of MD's. The recordings were all live recordings done on the MZ-R90 with a stereo mic. Like I said, they play back fine on the R90. Does this sound like there might be something wrong with the 530?
Christopher
Welcome aboard, mate. Yeah, I mean..if it sounds alright through your R90 and isn't playing back correctly through the deck, one would assume there is something wrong. I don't think a deck could reveal issues in a recording that a portable couldn't, at least in this sense.
skyraider
I've encountered the exact same problem with my setup. I've used 2 portables for recording: an MZ-R70, and the MZ-R500 I replaced it with when the battery compartment wouldn't stay shut. I've also used 2 decks: an MDS-JE700 I got to make optical-out copies, and an MDS-JE520 i got to do TOC cloning. Results are the same: discs that play without difficulty on both portables encounter location-specific playback problems on both decks.I thought initially it might be a backward-compatibility problem, since the decks are older than the portables, but everything I've been able to find about ATRAC indicates that the playback function is unaffected by revisions to the ATRAC standard.Like you, I bought the decks on Ebay, and I'm wondering if this is something that can be cleared up using Test Mode.Anyone? Help!
