Ossi
I am living now in Japan and thinking of buing a new portable recording player, but I have not decided which one to choose. I am most interested in Sony´s new HiMD players, like MZ-NH1 and the other cheaper models and Sharp´s IM-DR80.I would like to know which one has better sound? To me the sound is the most important factor when I am making the decision. Of course Sony´s HiMD system is a bonus too. I have used Sharp MT831, and I was very happy with it, until it started to act strangely. I would be very happy of all the information based on your experiences. Fat Tires
Each of us hears differently. I'd suggest listening to both units if a store near you has them on display. Bring a SP disc of your own music to listen to so you'll be familiar with the tracks played on the units. If you wait about three weeks, I'll be able to compare a friend's NH900 my DR480 and give you my feedback. aeriyn
If you're going to go with the Sharp, I wouldn't suggest the DR80 personally. The main uint has no LCD display so you're pretty much stuck with the remote. The DR7/DR77 are viable alternatives. They lack NetMD functionality, or perhaps I should say dysfunctionality. It's not a huge loss since you can't get SP mode recordings from the NetMD anyhow. Also, the optical/line-in on the DR80 is not on the main unit, but on the dock. This may cause some inconveniences. Ossi
Thanks Nismo96 & Aerilyn for your replies.Nismo96: I would be very happy to hear your opinnion if you can compare those models.Aerilyn: You have good points. The thing I liked in my late MT831 was the Display. It was big and informative and I hadn´t rely on the remote. I am little a bit worried of the Sony´s Copyright problems with Hi-MD´s. Has there been any solutions for the inconviniences?
aeriyn
I am little a bit worried of the Sony´s Copyright problems with Hi-MD´s. Has there been any solutions for the inconviniences?←Not really. Sony continues to shove DRM down tapers' throats even though the material is theirs and copyright to them. However, various enterprising members of the MD community have developed some workarounds. Try searching for HiMDRender and read about it, see if that fits your requirements.
