And1
Hi,I've recently run into some problems with my Sony Net MD MZ-N510 with SonicStage software. I had no problems converting MP3s and transferring them to my MD using SonicStage 1.5 until recently my newly transferred files started to sound distorted and warped when I listened to them on my MD. This of course never happened before.I have tried using multiple discs (old working ones and newly purchased ones too), using different MP3 files and have upgraded to SonicStage 2.3. The latter move did seem reduce distortion but my audio playback for newly transferred files is still pretty poor.Would anybody know what may have caused this and how I may fix the problem? Thanks in advance! dex Otaku
Is it encoding at 48kbps atrac3plus by default? Check the bitrate you're encoding at. It sounds to me like you're hearing the compression artifacts of low-bitrate encoding.

And1
I'm really unsure as to what this atrac3 is. But my current transfer mode settings for Net MD are:- Standard Transfer mode- Convert automatically and transfer as LP2 stereo
ROMBUSTERS
Atrac (otherwise known as SP) is the oldest codec but probably the best in terms of sound qualityAtrac3 introduced LP2 and LP4 respectivelyAtrac3+ introduced HiSP, HiLP, and 48kbpsStandard mode will attempt to transfer the audio in the form you encoded it in (if it is of Atrac or Atrac3 veriety) otherwise it will convert it to LP2 as needed (in your current set-up)
And1
I've experimented around with different encoding rates and I still have the same problem. Is there another cause for my problem?
ROMBUSTERS
more than likely the distortion is from the data loss going from uncompressed > MP3 > Atrac (loosing a lot of information in the process).Try the following:put a CD into your drive and use SimpleBurner Or SonicStage to get it onto your MD. Does that sound fine?second: put a CD into your drive and use a program that can make MP3s (like WMP10 for example) and rip a song or two into a very high bit-rate, like 192kbps, 256kbps, or 320kbps. Then import this into SS and convert to LP2. Try that transfer. Any difference? If so its because the MP3s you were using were encoded at too low of a bit rate (probably 128kbps) and it was already missing a lot of data
And1
Your second piece of advice seems to have worked for me! Thank you very much!
