yunush
Dear all,I bought Sony MZ-N10 Net MD which came with SonicStage 1.5.06 version I uploaded this software into my laptop as it was not working I upgraded to 1.5.50 It too didn't work.. When I start playing the cd's or load any music from my hard disk to sonicstage database it JUST FREEZES COMPLETELY. So later I tried to upgrade to VERSION 2.3 from Connect Europe website. I AM ON WINDOWS XP HOME EDITIOIN WITH SERVICE PACK 2Now the problem I am having is the sonic stage doesn't even load AT ALL. When I double click SonicStage it says ''Updating SonicStage Database, Please restart Sonic stage after updating has completed'' and nothing happens after that.Any help from any of you wise guys would be highly appreciated. Thanks a lotYunush. dex Otaku
To my knowledge this is usually caused by missing or corrupted Windows data access components.Try doing a search of the fora with that phrase:"updating sonicstage database" [with the quotes]Here's an old thread that relates to this. Note that since you have SP2 installed, this should not be an issue for you. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=6265
yunush
Hi Dex,Thanks for the link regarding the same issue. I followed the instructions to install the sonic stage from add remove programs, deleted all the registry key sony, sony corporation as mentioned, re-installed the driver for net md and re-installed the sonicstage 2.3 (upgrade version) from Connect Europe website but my problem still persists.I guess I should just sell off my md on ebay. End of the problem.Do you think if I get a new Sony Pocket Vaio VGF AP1L with Sonic Stage 2.2 (Full Version) software will solve my problem? Thanks.Yunush

I followed the instructions to install the sonic stage from add remove programs, deleted all the registry key sony, sony corporation as mentioned, re-installed the driver for net md and re-installed the sonicstage 2.3 (upgrade version) from Connect Europe website but my problem still persists.I don't doubt that it still does. Did you actually read my reply, or the post it linked to? With info about missing windows components, that removing and reinstalling SS won't affect in any way?I know it's slightly hipocritical of me to say that, since I don't actually have the solution to your problem [though supposedly installing SP2 should have refreshed all of those components regardless], but really - I gave yo suggestions based on x, which you replied to by saying lots about y, not addressing x in any way.Do you think if I get a new Sony Pocket Vaio VGF AP1L with Sonic Stage 2.2 (Full Version) software will solve my problem? Um. No. Since the problem is with either SS or SS's interaction with Windows, how exactly is connecting a completely unrelated hardware device to your computer going to change anything? The problem isn't with your netMD in the first place. Have you tried contacting Sony tech support on the web? The do take about a week to respond, but they do respond. Perhaps they might have a solution for you.
yunush
Hi again dex,Can you possibly give me the direct e-mail address of Sony MD tech support/ SonicStage tech support? I am in the UK. I have tried sony website and tried calling 0840... general information helpline but they weren't that helpful.... they just kept on saying about updating the critical updates from Microsoft website. When I told the Tech support that I already have SP 2 installed they didn't have any answer for my problem. They were also unable to give me the proper tech support email address or website link to address my problem.Thank YouYunush
dex Otaku
The only way I've seen to contact their tech support is through the support forms on their website. They aren't likely to give you direct addresses to their tech support as they know that anyone they gave those to would likely spread the address, which would increase traffic from sources other than what their support departments are made to cope with. superflyalive
I have the same problem. I am in Canada. Canadian tech supports final suggestion was to use Real Player instead of SS. That would be great except it doesn't support HiMD. The US tech support (even though I am not suppose to use it) has now refered me to level 2 support as I have tried all of their troubleshooting steps. The MD works fine (MZ-NH600D), Simple Burner works. The seperate Mp3 conversion tool doesn't. One tech said there was a XP service Pack 2 fix on microsoft's site. I can't find it and the SP1 fix won't install (and shouldn't be necessary) if you have SP2. I am thinking about a dirt install of XP. There has got to be a fix to this problem. I'll let you know if Sony helps...
Christopher
Download it here: It's big, but only installs what you need.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
superflyalive
Download it here: It's big, but only installs what you need.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en←Are you suggesting to install this SP2 and that this will solve the problem? If so do you need to reinstall SonicStage after Windows installs this version of SP2? I tried it without uninstalling and reinstalling and SS still doesn't work. Also US tech support says they will no longer help me. That means back to Canadian tech support...
Christopher
Installing SP2 may not fix the problem, but at least it will help us rule alot of things out whilst troubleshooting. I would recommend doing a complete reinstall [via the directions in thet FAQ found within this forum] after the SP2 install.
cubicsphere
You could try deleting Microsoft Windows Security Update Program MS04-032 (KB840987). According to an announcement on sony's website it solves the ss 2.1 problems. Really though, what a pice of crap! How can sony produce such a useless piece of software?
