Fat Tires
Here in the USA we now have a government organization dedicated to Homeland Security. It was formed after the terrible events that occured on September the 11th of 2001. One of the divisions within the Dept of Homeland Security is the Transportation Securty Administration. I come into contact with these fine folks on a regular basis as I fly around the USA on business for my company.Today I was stopped after going through the security checkpoint at the airport in both my origin and destination city when I was flying home. It seems that an X-Ray of my laptop bag made the TSA workers worried that I might have a box cutter in the bag. They had to rerun my bag through the X-Ray machine again at each location, and they ended up manually searching the bag in the end. This happened at bothj locations. It seems that my spare NH-14WM (gumstick) battery was the culprit. The kind folks at my destination city were nice enough to explain in detail what had happened. I've never had such courteous service from the TSA before, and I fly often, so that's saying a lot. It doesn't hurt that they didn't confiscate my gear either. I've heard some TSA horror stoires in the past. The nice thing about this experience was that I got to talk to them for a few minutes about minidisc technology and a couple of reasons why it's good. One of the two agents I spoke with is a former MD user himself, the other is considering it as a future purchase. I stressed long battery life and live recording capabilites. as top features of the format. He seems really excited about looking into buying a recorder for himself.I invited both of them to stop by the forum and talk about MD if they wanted to do so. I had a good time knowing first that these guys are really on top of things with their job, that they were so nice, and finally, that I could do a little MD evangelism on a triip for my job. Fat Tires
I've read that thread. I though I'd be safe from scrutiny since all my gear in my laptop bag is commercial stuff. It al lworked out well though.

I have never encounter any problem with TSA as yet; eventhough I do carry a spare NH-14WM in my photogear backpack. However, I do get a feeling that TSA does race-profiling. Fat Tires
I hate to agree with you on this issue, but it is certainly possible.
