I'm using the bundled RB-M02 E charger by AIWA which is only suitable for the shipped Aiwa rechargeable battery. There's no indicator on the unit, the manual tells to charge an empty battery for 8 hours. Now i want to charge a SONY battery (NH-14WM(A)) of same type and capacity but i'm afraid of damaging something. Is there a µ-processor controlled mechanism in such kind of chargers? Output current on my AIWA RB-M02 E is 250 mA, the battery's capacity is 1400 mAh.

Does anybody know, how chargers for such (prism-shaped) battery types work?

Why does the manual tell not to use it for another (equivalent) battery?

Thanks in advance
