Whenever I try to download/install SS2.3 , an error window comes up and says that "install Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close" When i close it, the Sonicstage Installer window appears but doesn't have anything in it. When I press OK, it says "SonicStage installer is currently running. Cannot upgrade SS2.3 while sonicstage installer is running. Close SS Installer and try again." What should I do? Idon't understand whats causing it? Help!

I orginally had problems downloading SS 2.3. For some reason, the installer detected that I had a previous version of SonicStage installed, which was downloaded from the CONNECT (US) website.

When I tried to download the Asia-Pacific version, the installer hung halfway for some strange reason. Try unistalling all Sony/OpenMG related software, and deleting all the references to SonicStage and OpenMG hanging around in your registry before attempting to download again.

The details are in the FAQ. .

Here, I found a quick solution to this annoying problem.

1. Uninstall the program and all parts of it in the link kurisu gave you.

2. Get the 2.3 connect installer and try to install the program. It will probably do the debug failing thing.

3. Go into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\SSWebUpg\Extract\. There should be a bunch of folders and one setup.exe program that doesn't work.

4. Try installing the setup file inside each folder, except the launcher folder (I think it is for uninstallation). Restart the computer.

5. There should be a link to Sonic Stage on the desktop, and it should work. And, the drivers should all be set up, and the minidisc player should work.

6. Finally, you are done. Sit back and enjoy using this crappy Sonic Stage program.

I WOULD NOT recommend this method by ANY MEANS. Randomly poking around in your SonicStage Instalation folder is likley to cause you EVEN MORE problems, the least of which is because:

i) You are likley to install the programs components in the wrong order. For in order for SS to function problem, all the components must be installed in the correct way so that they can integrate with each other in the manner they were intended too.

ii) If your installation isn't working to begin with, you are likley to be missing critical system components, or your SonicStage package wasn't downloaded correctly. Unlikley that SonicStage will function at all anyway.

iii) Only by executing the exact commands specified in the SonicStage Install Launcher can SonicStage properly function. This commands including entering correct registry keys, registering the installed modules, and preparing your system for the use of SonicStage by executing commands related to the OpenMG subsystem. Further more, the *.exe files you mention are run with specfic command line switches to make sure the programs are installed correctly.

Why Sony have such a convulted setup routine is anyone's guess, after all, OpenMG is an extremley sophisticated piece of software enginering, it's just a shame the the front-end to this subsystem (SonicStage) is so annoying to use.

If your installation worked by following the method above, it was a complete fluke.

Otherwise, I would not recommened the above procedure to anyone. Try it at your own risk!

Relax man...I was just explaining the way I got around this little issue. Also, I am very sure I was not missing any components, I believe it is some issue with my computer or something...the install file just would not work. And, I am very sure that installing the program this way will not harm your computer in any way. Of course, this is just my guess...but in my experience with computers...software like this doesn't usually harm the computer.

Anyway, the order I installed the folders was: sonicstage, sms, shared lib, openmg, limitedpatch, Eula, Driver, and Addon. I am sure there are a lot of other sequences that could be used, and I'm pretty sure they won't harm your computer in any way.

Now, about my installation being a complete fluke...you can judge that by attempting to install it my way. Of course, you do run the risk of "harming" your computer, so again, don't do it if you think my way will hurt your computer. Of course, I, frustrated with this piece of crap program, wondering if I would ever be able to transfer songs to my minidisc ever again, had no other choice but to "risk" harming my computer.

And now, I have a fully working Sonicstage...no problems so far.
