Chris Kelly Posted February 9, 2005 Report Share Posted February 9, 2005 Hi folks,Im going to buy a Net MD, for the USB->PC transfer functionality, but no matter what website I go to I can't find out which Net MD's will allow me to plug in a mic via 3.5 jack and record on to MD.I know older MD players with a "record" are more expensive. Is this the case with Net MD or are the no Net MD's that have record from a mic function because they are solely PC->MD via USB?Needing a little help before a purchase,New Board Member from UK,Chris. No audio input jacks.MZN510 - Basic NetMD unit with 3.5 line-in/optical jack. (used to record analog powered sources such as stereos, tape decks, etc.)NF610 - Same as the 510 but with a radio tuner remote.N710 - More advanced NetMD unit with 3.5 line-in/optical in AND MIC-IN for recording from stereo MICSNF810 - Same as N710, but with radio tuner remote.N10, N910, N920 - Top of the line NetMD models. All have MIC in/line in/optical in. The N10 is the smallest of the bunch, owing to its built-in battery. The N920 and 910 have gumstick batteries. The 920 has a digital amplifer to reduce battery consumption.My recommendation is to either get a 910, 710, or used N707 in good condition on ebay. HiMD allows this, but netMD does not. There is currently no way to transfer recordings from a legacy MD/LP disc [i.e. original MD, MDLP, and including netMD] to a computer other than by analogue means or using the optical output of a home/pro component deck. I'll use anologue recording then via 3.5 to 3.5 stereo jack into the line in on my sound blaster live then. And If I plug a mic into it and record, I get a faint sound. Probably in the -50 to -20 decibel range (guessing)What are my alternatives to buying a different model?Thank anyone for their help! KJ_Palmer Posted March 8, 2005 Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 You need a microphone pre-amp for recording normal everyday level sounds, or a battery box (battery module) for recording sustained high level sounds (like at rock concerts), or an amplified microphone.These will allow you to record through a line in.
