Problem: VAIO Pocket Randomly Shutting Off

hey guyss, as you may all know i've had my vaio pocket for about 4 months now...and just recently i've noticed that when i listen to my vaio (almost everyday on my commutes)...it randomly shuts off while i'm listening to it and i'm not pushing any buttons (everything is on hold). Does anyone know why that is? The battery is fully charged too. Just out of no where, it'll shut off and the screen will say "shutting off". I pray there's nothing wrong with is....anyone know why this is happening?

According to the user manual, if the "power off timer" is enabled, your player will initiate power off mode after a certain amount of time. So, please review the clock setting of the unit and ensure that timer setting such as “power off timer” is turned off. This could be the reason why your unit is powering off (randomly) on its own. Good luck and report back if the problem still persists.

Thank you for answering and sorry about the posting, however I just checked today about the power off timer and it was set to "off" already. I would think this would be the reason but since it was already put on off, i don't know what else would cause that to happen.

Perhaps, you can try and take the VAIO Pocket's battery out and put it back in to resolve the problem. If the problem still persists, I would definitely advise you to get Sony to service the unit.

Have you tried resetting the unit per the reset button yet?

Are you experiencing this problem with wire remote in use(plugged in)?

Remote button in press-and-hold position will switch off the VaioPocket. Possible that remote plugged into the player is not seated properly(therefore remote pins are shorting out)? Possible that one of your your remote button is becoming sticky?

I had a Sony MD remote that took up(soak up) too much sweat while running with it for some time. Started to do all sort of things while MD is in operation. If I remove the remote and plug in the headphone directly to the unit then all problems went away. As soon as defective remote is plugged back in, then back to its mysterious ways. Ended up replacing that remote.

From then on I learn to keep my remotes nice and clean(and dry).

Just a thought.

i'm not sure if my problem has been resolved, but oddly enough...ever since i posted my problem on the forum...the problem hasn't happened ever since (knock on wood). So i'm hoping everything is fine now, but if it does happen again..i'm assuming it would be the battery or something like that. Thanks so much everyone for your help, I really appreciate it!

Hi, I've been reading this forum this weekend, and it's the best so far. Thanks for I wish I saw this forum before I bought my vaio pocket (3 months ago) since I was only relying on siliconpop's and cnet's review. I hope this is the right thread for my problem.

Recently I saw someone posted a problem with the battery. My battery would run out in couple of days eventhought the device is completely turned off. Also, when the device is completely turned off, I can hear a high pitch noise coming out. I'm suspecting that the hard drive is keep running. After the battery drains out, I have to set everything again (time, date, etc.) I contacted Sony thru live chat and they told me that they never come across this issue with VGF-AP1L before. They also told me to contact the nearest Sony repair centers. Anybody knows where's the nearest Sony repair centers for zip code 12603 in NY? I'd prefer Sony's own certified technician to check my vaio pocket, instead of any stores that are certified to fix Sony's products.

Anybody is having this problem too and how to resolve this problem? Thanks for the info!
