kontikichile
I can't reinstall or update the SS or the MDSB because:1. The program I have in my pc (SS 2.1) doesn't open and it says: "Cannot find OpenMG Secure Module"2. I have downloaded and installed the secure patch (related to OpenMG programs) from Microsoft Windows Update.3. I have downloaded the upgrade to SS 2.3 from connect. But when i execute de file it does the following:3.1: Previous version of SS, Uninstall?: OK3.2: That's all folks.... It erases my old SS and installs nothing!3.3: So, after upgrading I don't have any version of SS installed...4. I try to reinstall SS 2.1 from the original CD and it reinstalls perfectly (al least the system says that). But when i try to use SS the message "Cannot find OpenMG Secure Module" appears (although while the SS installer shows the message "Installing OpenMG Secure" and id doesn't raise any kind of error message)Please believe me: if it had not tried everything I know ,I would not be bothering you in this forum.Please... help! kontikichile
Please read the faq's found at the top of this forum.←I've read them before. I followed them to uninstall and reinstall (erasing the registry, directories and following all the advices there). Like I told you before Kurisu, I tried everything I know...The first time I installed SS and for two months it worked properly. The problem began last week without installing any new software nor changing the registry files.I have also read in other forums and the problem is common, but none of the answers found there were useful to help in this case. Thanks all the way folks, Edited February 11, 2005 by kontikichile

kontikichile
Okay, then read the thread which states the proposed rules and paste the answers to the questions here.←Information Update (as proposed in the rules)OSWindows XPSP: 1 (can you help to be sure about this? I have some updates that say (SP2))Updates: Automatic Updates Activated (from Microsoft Site)(All of the SW licenses are in order)HWCOMPUTERVendor: ToshibaModel: Satellite A60CPU: P4, 3.07GHzRAM: 512 MBHi-MdVendor: SonyModel: MZ-NH700SonicStageVersion: 2.1 (the cd that came with my Hi-Md unit)AntivirusVendor: Symantec Version: 9.0.0.338Engine: 1.4.0.11Virus Definition File: 02/09/2005 rev. 32Important NotesNote 1I tried installing the OpenMG Secure Module alone (same application that is launched by the SS installer) and it raises the following error:OpengMG Secure Module Error: "Error 1606. Could not access network location 0."I thought it may be caused by the Antivirus, so I went to the Symantec homepage and searched for the message. They say that in some cases it occurs and that they recommend unistalling and reinstalling. And here is where Note 2 comes:Note 2My notebook is property of my job, so the antivirus starts with windows and it seems I can't stop it (it doesn't appear as a process at the windows task bar). Is not that easy for me to uninstall and reinstall it. So I would prefer to stop the antivirus instead of unistalling it while I test the OpenMG Secure Module installation.Note 3Maybe the most important. How can I be sure that I don't have SP2 installed in my computer (windows automatic updates are activated here). If I don't have it, Is it safe to install? I read in the microsoft page that you must make a backup of all your "important" files... But like I said in note 2 this is the computer I use in my job, so, I think that 99% of the files here are important.Note 4The MDSB is not working either. It raises the following error: MD Simple Burner: A fatal error has occurred. To correct this error, reboot your PC. If rebooting does not correct this problem, reinstall the software. Of course the first time I tried rebooting, but the problem continued. For the things I have tried, and the information I told you above I think I must focus my solution in the installation of the OpenMG Secure Module. There is the problem and the SS Installer fails to give me an advice of this problem. It only says "OpenMG Secure Module Installation Successful". (Maybe you should consider this issue in the "Mdcf Sonicstage 2.3 & Mdsb Installer Project")That's all I can say for now. I won't give up and when I have the answer I' ll share it with you. Christopher
Go to Start > Run and put in:winver..and press enter or "Ok". Within this box it will tell you if you have service pack 2 or not. If not, then manually open windowsupdate.microsoft.com through Internet Explorer and keep doing express installs until it says you have no more updates to install. If for some reason it won't let you install SP2 or anything of that like, just tell me as I know manual download links. After confirming that you have all windows updates, download our 2.3 installer. This will update your installation easily and at least eliminate the questionable integrity of Sonicstage in the troubleshooting process:http://forums.minidisc.org/images/SS23ENG.exep.s. To stop Norton, can't you just right click on the icon in the taskbar and find whatever they've dubbed "off". It may be within Norton itself. The Automatic Updates feature is being managed by my network administrator as I could confirm in the microsoft page (http://protect.microsoft.com/security/protect/WSA/en/control.asp).Question1: Why should my Network Admin want to avoid the system to install SP2?Question2: Can I cause a system crash if I install SP2 by my own?Question3: Could you please give me the link to download SP2 manually?3. I looked at my console of the Symantec Antivirus and I could see that all the options are locked. I can't disable it. Maybe if I look in the startup file of windows to block it before it starts? (Is there any startup file like in older versions of windows?)Thanks again! Edited February 11, 2005 by kontikichile
Christopher
Your system should be fine if you install it on your own. Why not try asking your Network Admin about it, eh? If he gives you the run around then I'll give you a manual download link. Also, let's not mess with your anti-virus. For future reference however, you can manipulate such in Start > Runmsconfig..and then click on the Startup tab. Uncheck away in there.Nonetheless, try our Sonicstage 2.3 installer and see if things work after that. Maybe SP2 isn't necessary, but please look into it regardless. Mitchelle
Hi to all! I have the same problem. I just aquired my Sony MP3 player today. I have dowloaded the Open MG secure module program from but unfortunately, when I try to install instashield or setup.exe, an error dialogue box will say that it cannot access my %userprofile%\startmenu\programs\ . Do you have any clue? Would appreciate your help!ThanksMitchelle
Christopher
Welcome to the forums, Mitch. Is this a Minidisc unit, or a Sony ATRAC device? If it's not a Minidisc unit, please create a thread at our sister forum, ATRACLife Colloquium.
