Damage
... I guess what all of us American kids were taught in school is wrong then. I only know what I am taught and what I've managed to find out on my own, and this thread and the other thread on the other board just proves to me even further that the American education system is stupid and full of misinformation. What am I supposed to believe if America is telling me nothing but lies? How do I know what is true and what isn't? Should I even bother trying to find out?Perhaps your media and your educational system tells the truth, dex. I don't know, I didn't go to school in Canada. Am I supposed to accuse my teachers of lying when they taught us this stuff? I'm totally lost. The news isn't much better, is it? They're all lying, aren't they? What am I supposed to believe, or should I even bother trying to find out?Edit: Er, after reading this, I noticed that I may come across as being sarcastic and nasty. Actually, I'm completely serious... and really embarrassed, and annoyed, and upset that I am well... wrong. So I'm serious, not mocking at all.←Trust me, the ejoomakashun system here is no more corrupt nor honorable than the ones in Mexico, Europe, Russia, Japan, or Madagascar. This is coming from having learned in two countries (well, one in elementary schooling). Problem with the US education is because of outside (re: Parental) meddling. See the whole issue about Evolution/Creationism to see what I mean. Parents here are way too uptight. God forbid should kids learn about scientific facts! God forbid that teachers actually do their job! Can't have that now can we! Discipline? Bah! You even remotely try to discipline our kids, you're in trouble! No wonder teachers are packing heat and flak vests, you'd think Iraq was safer than some of our schools...While we're at it, let's complain to the FCC when out kids are even remotely threatened by something as innocent as a part of a human body. You'd think the parents here in US never heard of this amazing invention called the Remote control, or the V-Chip...And if you think I'm right, I also have a nice property in Brooklyn for sale, some bridge or rather. All issues aside, while the primary system of education blows, the secondary system (particulary the tradtional 4 year university system) does a good job of it, pretty much all over the world. Here, you have the opportunity to learn things that you were never privy to in primary schools. For instance, you have wider access to literature, political discussions, philosophical musings, etc. You have the ability to (or not to) discuss your opinions on various items. You have the ability not only to learn (as you do in primary education), but also to question (more so than you're afforded to in High school, or Jr. High) it, if you so choose. And there in lies the crux of the education system: will you question what you are told, or will you just accept it? Is the goal of the education system to instill the values of education (to keep on learning, to keep on questioning things) or otherwise? There in lies the answer. aeriyn
I think a lot of people, myself included, question too much and not enough.
Guest NRen2k5
In the long run, american corporations will come to realize that the disadvantages of outsourcing to the far east outweight the advantages. As it has probably already been stated here, while the Chinese education system may be very good at turning out ace graduates, it very much lacks the hands-on experience aspect that is essential in many fields. For instance, chinese medical doctors can acquire a diploma without ever treating a single patient. No matter what certification and even knowledge he may possess, would you want your life in the hands of someone who has never closed a wound before?
