Damage
Best $15 I've spent this month, the Sony AIR Clip-ons, MDR-Q55SL (the local target had the AIR variety) for only measly $15. For $15, I'd say these phones are definately worth their money, as long as you can get a good fit and seal on these. However, I'd probably think twice about spending full price on these. At this rate, I plan to get couple of these to give as gifts, makes a nice entry set of headphones, I'd wager. Nice and stylish, and sound quality that's pretty decent for the money. So, what's your best impulse buy in phones? Mine happen to be $40 Techincs RP-DJ1200 (the best phones $40 could buy, they retailed for $120 at one point).Or, barring that you have no good discoveries to share, what's the worst impulse buy (does it have anything to do with PHILIPS?) that you've had to date?Yea, I'm in a mood for some silly dilly topics like this today. Bananatree
I got the q55s for free when I bought my r909 from someone. They are really good headphones if you can get them cheap, although I was sure they were going to fly off my ears when I was riding my bike really fast. aeriyn
Koss KSC-75s. These literally are the best open cans for 20 bucks, no joke. Unlike the Sennheiser MX series buds, they don't need giant ears to fit properly and they've got bass. Beastly bass. Solder some 47ohm resistors on each of the signal lugs on the drivers, and it tames the savage bass beast these things display, and they become wonderful. D-EJ915
The Q55s sound like streetstyles (okay...if EQed correctly), but they really hurt my ears, your results may differ, but after about 40-50 minutes I couldn't wear them anymore. bhangraman
I think my nicest impulse purchase was the Audio-Technica ATH-D1000. Although circumstances meant I have no use for them anymore, they sounded really nice. My worst was the Panasonic RP-HDA100. While not actually bad it was not actually good either and all told, just... boring. Edited February 19, 2005 by bhangraman

burnsie17
i purchased the q55s recently and i love the sound for the money...of course, that's if i'm not moving and the ambient noise is nil. I have been largely listening to classical music and jazz and would like i pair of hps that sound as good but have much better isolation. Based on suggestions on the forum, I was looking at the Sony mdr-ex71s and thought that might be a good choice but if anyone would have a suggestion as to something else in about that price range i would really appreciate it

Rumz
Sadly I think a lot of my purchases could be considered "impulse" buys, Back in 2002 I went in search of my first player-only unit, and ended up with the Sharp DS8. It was maybe only a week or 2 after that all the hype had me buying a pair of D66 eggos... fairly impulsive buy but I still love these phones. Didn't get a screaming deal on them or anything... but they're worth every penny to me.
