Okay, after one has ripped their music to SonicStage, you can *convert* the songs from ATRAC3 to ATRAC3Plus. This is done so by right-clicking your selected songs (within a Group) and clicking "Convert File..."

Question: After this has been completed, how do I then *require* (a/k/a Force) Sonicstage to select the ATRAC3Plus version of the song for copying to my device?

It seems that after I've done this Conversion, I have more than one copy of the song, and Sonicstage selects the ATRAC3 version automatically for copying to my device. GRRRR.

please advise. cheers bretheren(and sisters).

SonicStage 2.3 does not do this and it is the biggest mistake I think Sony could have made

I guess SonicStage 3.0 is coming out soon (before spring 2005 smile.gif lol) and hopefully that will allow you to.

For the time being you actually have to delete the version you dont want to be transfered in order to force it to use the other one

Welcome to the forums, highemdee.

Converting ATRAC3 to ATRAC3plus is like rebagging a piece of garbage [i.e. you're taking a piece of music, encoding it in ATRAC3, then encoding that in ATRAC3plus - bad]. It would be in the best sonic interest to make a direct copy of the source of the music to ATRAC3plus, if possible.

SS 3.0 does this. You can force downsamples, cross-samples (between ATRAC3 and ATRAC3Plus on-the-fly) - choose to save or not save the resulting files etc.

It's all in the various transfer settings dialogue boxes I believe what you are looking for would be the "Specified Bit Rate Transfer Mode" option.
