Hi everybody ,

I can't rip audio CDs with SS 3.0 and SB 2.0 , though I can read, import, and burn individual files on my NetMD .

In the file sblog.txt (created by SB) , I have found the following :

----------------------------------------------

03/27/2005 10:13:59PM SelectDrive():1

03/27/2005 10:13:59PM cdin: CD drive already tested.

03/27/2005 10:13:59PM Bitrate 132000

03/27/2005 10:13:59PM Cache Path for ripping M:\TMP\

03/27/2005 10:14:00PM cdin: filecount=17

03/27/2005 10:14:00PM cdin: Ripping started

03/27/2005 10:14:00PM cdin: CCDInterface opcNotify_ConvertFailed.

03/27/2005 10:14:00PM cdin: opcNotify_ConvertFailed.

03/27/2005 10:14:00PM cdin: HRESULT 0x80040815 OMGErrorCode 0x415

---------------------------------------------------

Have you an idea on what happens ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The error complains about "notify_convert" .. I would try importing WAV files into SS, then converting them to the format you normally use, just to make sure this is not an issue with the SS / SB internal [i.e. ATRAC/3/plus] codecs.

I would also check for the following running on your system:

* additional CD or DVD writing software that loads and stays running in the background, especially:

** DVD-RAM drivers, if applicable

** UDF writer drivers, if applicable

* old/deprecated ASPI drivers that might interfere

* that your CD/DVD drive have the most recent firmware installed [google the model # of your drive and the word "firmware"]

It would also help to make sure that you're able to rip CDs with other software on your system. Even Windows Media Player would suffice to test this.

Do let us know where you get to with this.

Cheers,

d.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply

My ASPI version is :

ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2

WOWPOST.EXE 4.6 (1021)

WINASPI.DLL 4.6 (1021)

WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2

The Adaptec ASPI checker tool has not found errors on my aspi installation

I have upgraded my Sony DRU-530A firmware to 2.0A

I have disabled Nero InCD and Image Drive (I think that it is the only third party cd software I have on my system );

btw, I have the problem too when using Nero Image Drive as the ripping source.

I can import wav and mp3 files in SS , transfer them on my MZ-N707 Type R NetMD, and ripping with WMP (mp3 and WMA loseless) works.

I have to mention that in SS, the Format and Bit Rate lists are blank , maybe it is why

it doesn't work with SB too : what's the problem here ?

also,I have noticed error logs in the Windows events watcher if IMAPI service is disabled, could it be an issue with it ?

I forgot to mention that when closing "settings" popup by clicking on its "OK" button , I get this error message :

"SonicStage : Un argument non valide a été detecté"

(translation : "SonicStage : An invalid argument has been detected" )

With SS, I get this error in CDRFormatter.log just after launching the program :

*****************************************************************

[ 2005/03/28 21:24:28 ] C:\Program Files\Sony\SonicStage\Omgjbox.exe

*****************************************************************

I'm sorry, but I have no solution to this problem.

My only advice is to try uninstalling SS -and- SB, and re-installing them.

Check this thread for instructions on removal:

http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071

It does sound like one of SS's components [which are shared by SB] is missing. Unfortunately, as I have never experienced this issue myself, I can't really do more than guess at what the problem actually is.

Good luck, and again - let us know the results.

edit: What version of Windows are you using, and is it updated to the most recent servicepack &c.?

I use Windows XP SP2 (upgraded from SP1a) on an Intel P4 3,2 G processor (with HT enabled)

I have completly disabled DEP in boot.ini (/noexecute=AlwaysOff)

I have installed and run SS /SB under an administrator privileges account.

I have tried with stopping my anti-virus software, and I don't use SP2 security stuff at all.

I don't think the problem is audio codecs related (I have no codecs packs) , since I can import and transfer individual wav or mp3 files.

Searching on the web, it seems that the errors found in SS are related to security policy (unknown security policy).
