What To Do When A Disc Gets Stuck

Today an MD got stuck inside my two-day old R910. I tried almost everything to get it out but could not manage to do so. I found that the Maxell discs I have used sometimes cause this problem, but there was no immediate solution anywhere, other than gently and patiently pulling the disc. In my case it did not budge. I was almost going to send the unit back to service. After a few hours of frustration I found a solution:

Cut out a strip of hard plastic about 2cmx8cm. It should be less than 1mm in thickness. Stick the piece between metal mechanism below the MD cover and the disc. juggle it around. The disc will pop up in seconds. Warning, do not stick the plastic to the bottom side of the disc since you may scratch the optical head and/or damage the electronics.

In my case the disc was a maxell MD74 gold, and the transparent plastic on it had came off making the disc a potential killer for any MD. I should have been more careful inserting that in the first place.

Hope this helps somebody else too.
