Assuming that you have a line-in and you don't need phantom power for your mic, I suggest that you buy yourself a cheap preamp like this one.

I have a UB802 myself, which does have phantom power. To my opinion, these mixers (the UB series) have a very high value/money ratio.

hmm im planning to use a shotgun mike- senheisser type- with its own battery- but because the minidisc player itself doesnt have a mic in getting this pre-amp will i be able to control the mic sensitivity (gain?) and be able to use the line in (becasuse theres no mic in?)

thanks heaps guys

I suggest you re-read the first reply.

If you've got a 600D rather than a 600, you CAN'T record at all. No mic-in, no line-in.

(if I'm wrong, someone correct me!).

I just don't want you spending money on gear that you won't be able to use. In the first instance, I suggest that you check your user manual.
