Some feedback regarding the link given in a pinned and closed thread posted Apr 30 2005, 06:09 PM by Kuritsu ...

Sonicstage 3.1 Full Installer, Courtesy Of Mdcf. -

Requires no additional 'net connection!

I DL'd this (23MB) and tried it out:

1. If full install selected the installer tries to connect to net and DL 'WMP9codecs.exe' 1.3MB from MS site (I did not try leaving out any of the options)

2. The default XP user must place a folder on their desktop called 'Downloads' to receive the required file - even if you already have the file and copy it into the folder to avoid the DL this doesn't help and it gets overwritten by the new one.

3. Even if you install the codec pack previously, it still insists on doing it all over again.

4. Without this DL; i.e. being connected to the net, the whole installation breaks off.

5. If you connect to net and let it proceed the SS3.1 software is now extracted + installed (this first stage takes 10 min)

6. At the 2nd stage it says must uninstall old s/w first (I had SS2.3) - if you do not touch this dialog box the rest of install will continue seperately, Simple Burner, Personal Audio Driver, etc.

7. Installer reports complete and finishes.

8. Must Reboot to start new s/w

9. Cannot reboot until uninstall dialog box is closed (at least on my machine)

10. SS2.3 still starts and works fine at this stage.

11. Confirm delete old s/w

12. SS2.3 is wiped out - and there is nothing in the space where it was!

13. Reboot - nothing except Simple Burner to be found!

14. Repeat whole tedious procedure of install SS3.1

15. It installs and recognises all the files/albums in old DB

16. But the Hi-MD device is not recognised any more - no transfers except to CD

17. Tried several fixes - CSRepair, Personal Audio Driver new, Hi-MD driver new

18. My problem remains

19. Am beginning to regret I didn't wait for SS3.3

20. Would advise ppl to leave this installer pending further investigation/rebuild

21. Will next try the online DL through the sony.japan website

22. If no improvement with that will revert to yesterdays Acronis image of systemdrive to restore all.

Hope this helps someone else avoid wasting 20hours on this thing.

Regards, BP
