Terence Kelly
I recently bought an RH10 (US version). I have used minidisc for 4 years now for gradual conversion of my large LP collection to digital formats. The new HI MD units, with their ability to upload files to a computer quickly and to record in PCM seemed like a nice upgrade for my purposes. The first thing I tried was uploading a test track, and it worked fine. Then I recorded a MET broadcast, setting the auto track mark at 5 minutes so that I could easily maneuver in the opera. (Hi MD's capacity is great for this by the way.) I then edited those tracks to match the numbers in the opera. When I tried to upload them, SS (3.1) bombed with an Omgjbox error. After some fiddling it turns out that SS can't deal with tracks that were combined on the minidisc. I'm guessing there is a problem with reading the directory. If the minidisc directory has only one entry for the track, it uploads fine. If it has more than one, SS bombs or the files that are uploaded hang when played in Sonicstage. The hang occurs where tracks were combined on the minidisc. The RH10 has no problem playing the edited tracks correctly. Can anyone duplicate this problem? Sony support promised to get back to me by now, but has not. It sounds like a software problem to me, but I want to make sure it's not a problem with this unit.TK

I recorded a concert for a friend, and did the editing of tracks on the MD itself. I tried uploading, but then it seemed to crash at the same points you mentioned, when i recombined tracks. This is highly frustrating, because i need desperately to pass the song files off to my friend, and now i need to do recordings with the line in of my computer, WITHOUT a line out from the MD (RH10). I'm so f***ed. Next time I won't use the auto divide function. The one upload limit is also frustrating and i dare not try uploading again in case the software erases my audio....Is there anyone with a fix for this? I should have got an MP3 recorder instead of this DRMed piece of s***. Dang.
A440
If you want to stay digital, use Dex's SonicStage/TotalRecorder method. Get TotalRecorder (it's $11.95 and totally worth it) from http://www.highcriteria.com. Hook up the MD via USB, start Total Recorder and play back through SonicStooge. You'll get a better recording than headphone out. Worrisome about the trashed recordings. I do a lot of editing on the discs myself. With the next one, maybe someone could try this experiment in letting it rewrite the TOC more than once. Do the editing/recombining you need, let it save them, and then do another negligible edit somewhere and let it save that. Maybe it will think your previous edit was the original version. I'll try this myself when I get the chance.
