Hi,

you wouldn't believe the hassle i've been going through the last couple of weeks to get my sonicstage working. Sony e-mailed me offering me the update to SS 3.1...i thought what nice people at sony....YEH RIGHT...since downloading it, it's just been a mega pain in the backside...The "Omgjbox.exe has caused an error and must be closed by windows" comes up everytime at the exact point where the animation shows "loading UI components"...the same thing sometimes used to happen with my old SS 2.0, but after re-starting it would be fine. I've tried the microsoft update, i've tried deleting and reinstalling, i've tried the thorough delete including registry components and nothing is working. I need this software to work!

If anybody has a clue that would be great.

Just to give you a bit of info about my gear

NetMD MZ-N10

Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4

Nvidia Geforce 4

P4 2.0 Ghz

512 mb ram

PLEASE GUYS HELP ME!

cheers

Welcome to MDCF!

Could you please provide additional information regarding the NVIDIA drivers currently installed in your system? Newer NVIDIA drivers - such as version 66.93 - are known to cause problems when you try to launch SonicStage.

What was the principal NVIDIA driver you have prior to the downgrade? For your information, the NVIDIA video drivers currently installed in my system for Windows XP Pro SP2 is 56.73.

You can find a selection of NVIDIA drivers here. Give version 56.73 a try and do remember to reboot your system after removing the drivers.

I hope that helps. Good luck.

after changing my drivers would i need to uninstall and then re-install sonicstage 3.1? Before downgrading I had the latest driver 71.89

No, you do not need to uninstall and reinstall SonicStage 3.1 after changing NVIDIA drivers. Just make sure you reboot your system upon removing the old drivers before applying the a new one.

i'm afraid that didn't work either...if you have any fresh ideas I would be so welcome for any more help

I am sorry that it didn't work for you. Your experience:

"Omgjbox.exe has caused an error and must be closed by windows" comes up every time at the exact point where the animation shows "loading UI components"...the same thing sometimes used to happen with my old SS 2.0, but after re-starting it would be fine.

usually indicate:

1) conflicts with NVIDIA drivers;

2) need for Windows update (to SP2 if using XP system or SP4 if using Windows 2000 system); and

3) possible conflicts with other utilities/software.

I know you've already installed SP4 for Windows 2000, but do try applying this Windows 2000 (KB887811) patch. According to Microsoft and Sony, this patch will resolve the omgjbox.exe issue - related to users already have SP4 installed in their Windows 2000 system.

I hope this solution will resolve your problem this time. Good luck.

again nothing, sorry to bug you about this, but n e more hints?....when you said conflicts with other software, what could they be?

Possible conflicts with other utilities/software ---> One that I can think of now is ffdshow; although it actually relates more to playback issue.

I am sorry that none of the suggested solutions work for you. Perhaps, one of our members would care to chime in at this point.

I had a similar problem that went away (i think) after I upgraded the windows media format runtime... I'm running win200 pro sp4 as well.

Not sure if that helps, but may be worth a try?

Edit: I did run the MDAC repair utility as well, but it wasnt until upgrading the windows media (which oddly enough, the sonicstage installer downloaded) that it finally started loading right...

Nice member no. btw, "7,777" happy.gif

try searching the web for "wmfdist.exe"...

it is the runtime for the windows media format (.wma).

all I know is that I was having the same error each time I tried opening sonicstage, and tried everything I could find in this forum.

it worked fine after I updated this.

let me know if it works after installing the runtimes.

I forgot to add that you could try using the MDAC repair tool, which you can obtain from the "Downloads" section of this forum. (top left corner)

-- well yes!!!

... thank you...

... this MDAC repair tool did something and...

... the thing, sonicstage i mean, is working fine now!

... cheers!

Maybe Im just missing it, but I don't see 56.73, just 56.72.
