csubi8
hi all,I've got an mp3 walkman (D-NE511) with atrac3 capability. On my PC there is the new SS 3.3, I convert mp3 files to atrac3 and it completed succesfully. But when I put the disc into the walkman and play it, the sound "gurgles" mostly in lower freqvency. The most interesting thing is that not all the tracks have this "underwater-effect" (approx. half of the tracks). But these "effects" are really annoying. Can you help me, what the problem is? I don't think it is a hardware problem. (Pentium4,3.0Ghz,512MBRAM,200GB HDD,6600GT etc...)Csubi from Hungary (sorry for my english)

csubi8
Please tell us in which bit rate r u coverting ur tracks?←default bitrate (i think 66kbps), but i remembered i also tried higher bitrate... i just wondering why i can't find in the list atrac3plus format, just atrac3 with 66, 105 and 132... in ssversion1.0a i could choose atracplus... Guest Stuge
As u r converting ur tracks in 66kpbs thats why ur atrac file sounds lgives "underwater-effect" or "gurgles" effect .This is b`coz during conversion the file is so much compressed that it loses its sound quality.U might have experianced that 132kpbs sounds better then 66 kpbs .But u will need to convert a higher bit rate mp3 to atrac or atrac 3 plus eg. 256 or 320 or 192kpbs mp3 to atrac.I u think that when u convert a 96kpbs mp3 to a 256kpbs or higherbit rate atrac 3 plus, then u will think it will sounds better ...no not at all .It will still sounds like the old 96kpbs..Since ur using ss ver 3.3 then u must right click on the mp3 file. Then click on "convert format".Then u will need to choose from "OpenMG audio(ATRAC 3) or OPENMG AUDIO(ATRAC 3 PLUS).click on OPENMG AUDIO(ATRAC 3 PLUS).where u will see many bit rate such as 352kpbs ,320 kpsb,256kpbs etc..click on any one of ur choice & then click on convert.Ur file is converted to Atrac3 plus. csubi8
yap, thanx a lot, i found it... but there is another way to convert my musics to atrac (without annoying sounds)... i figured it out that when i convert the tracks first into WAV, then i convert them to atrac... and you know what? the "underwater-effect" has gone... i know, it is a plus to work, but i have to make it once (i hope so)... i think the problem is in the (encoding) "codec" of mp3... not in MY computer, but in that PC who convert the music into mp3... because i tested two mp3 files, with the same bitrate, and in the end one of the atrac file was perfect, but the others was not... just one more question hangin' in the air: which mp3 "codec" doesn't love atrac? :-)so thanx all the help

I don't see the need to convert the MP3s to atrac. Just burn your MP3s to CD as data. Converting to Atrac will only reduce quality due to transcoding.
