Hi guys~

Ever since I bought my new MZ-RH10 Minidisc recorder, I have been having difficulties with my chinese MP3s. Every time I tried to add a file named in Chinese characters to sonicstage, it would never work. And when i renamed my mp3 files from chinese characters to letters, it would finally let me add the songs into the library. But even so, the titles and the artists names are replaced by question marks (??????????). I tried everything, and nothing seemed to work.

I finally found the solution to my problem!!!!

I installed the Chinese version of Windows XP, then I installed the Sonicstage 3.1 as one would normally do, and finally, i changed something in the regedit.

After installing SonicStage and 3.1 and rebooting my computer, i went into "regedit" in start//run

--> Using regedit, go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\OpenMG\PD\{D887F25F-02A3-44D7-841F-583DD5231B5F}

--> Then locate the entry called "AreaCode"

--> Change it to 800000 hexadecimal. That's the value on the Chinese install of SS.

and thats ALL!! (lol it shouldnt be to hard if u have windows XP chinese version)

PS: i tried applocal but it doesnt work for me

As orange_mango indicated, you will need a Chinese WinXP to utilize the full effect of the registry entry. It will not work under Microsoft AppLocale (*even with WinXP MUI pack installed); as Chinese track titles will still appear as "???" even though it display properly within SonicStage environment. In addition, this entry will result in inability to title in Kanji. Nonetheless, I only tried this with my Japanese RH10. Perhaps, the Tourist Model will work better with this entry.

The change in regedit value seems to work for me... Im using SS3.2 US Verison... Changed the regedit value and used the Microsoft Applocale... also my regional settings is set to use Chinese(Taiwan) for non-unicode... but not sure if that makes a difference.

Will make another post if I encounter problems

Opps... the non-unicode should be set to English otherwise it won't work. Kinda of sucks since that means I lose chinese ability for other programs

I guess it was a typo. The correct code for Chinese is 80000 (four zeros at the end), not 800000. The screen shot picture shows the correct value :)

[update Nov 6 2005] Actually I was wrong! The correct code is 800000 (with FIVE zeros at the end). I verified it on my Win2K machine by installing the US version of SS3.3, change the system language to Simplified Chinese and change the "AreaCode" inside registry. Everything works fine. If I use 80000 (four zeros) areacode, it could not transfer the title correctly to the unit.

orange_mango, your screenshot is a bit misleading...
