How to make SonicStage crash-free

I have had huge problems with SonicStage since re-formatting my hard disc. It repeatedly crashed. I posted my problem (with 3.1) and was told exactly what to do to uninstall and re-install - and advised to move to 3.2.

Still the same problem.

But I think that I know what went wrong with the installations. My Hi-MD player was connected! ohmy.gifblushing.gif So XP looked for a suitable driver, found a generic USB device driver and loaded it. Then the Sony software does not replace the generic driver with a fully functional one.

I have reinstalled again and this time made sure that the player was not connected until after I had completed the SS installation.

NO MORE PROBLEMS good.gifbiggrin.giflaugh.gif

Yes, I know that the instructions say it should not be connected - But is it prominent enough? Is this worth a sticky note, or a highlighted mention in hints and tips?

This is generally true for any USB device. Install drivers first then hook up to the USB device (most likely after a reboot). The only device I ever installed that needed the device to be connected while the driver was being installed is my SB Extigy.
