MZ-NH1 a lemon?

I have an Mz NH1 - I bought this new last march (2005) and it is failing.

I have had problems with bad HiMD discs not recording the second half

of the disc (maybe 45 good pcm minutes of live recording before skips

and stops appear)

Now the remote has stopped working and when I tried making a live recording

last night (using only the controls on the unit since the remote doesn't work)

on one brand new HiMD disc I recorded fine, but the other wouldn't get out of

'system write' mode after a recording - I had to remove the battery.

Can anyone direct me where to go with these problems?

Thanks

PS, I used an MZr50 for 5 years - it still works great, though it's a bit beat up

on the outside - I just want HiMD portable for the pcm recording ability.

The recordings - when they work - are beautiful.

Again - thanks for your help - I've been buying all sorts of Sony products since

1966 and have never seen such a terrible piece of equipment as this mznh1.

Very disappointing in design and mechanical reliability.

you should take your unit to a service repair. The problem with the discs... well I think the discs are fine and your unit is defective.

thanks for your responses - I wrote to Sony online and described the problem and the unit -

I received an immediate automated reply that my unit is available for free exchange for a 'factory refurbished' model. a little later Sony sent an email confirming my eligibility for the exchange, but saying that i had to select a 'comparable' model to replace it with.

so I guess they agree with me that the MZNH1 is not all it should be.

can anyone recommend what current HiMD portable would be 'comparable' to the MZNH1. Frankly I'm glad to have the opportunity to trade for another model, even if it is refurbished.

I wonder how this will affect the 3 year extended warranty I purchased with this unit?
